re: PLAN Type 052 Class Destroyer

PLAN and USN have different goals and objectives ...
Very true. For example even J20 is considered by chinese as an "air defense fighter" instead of an "air superiority fighter". But since probably China will have soon same economic size of US, we can wonder which strategy is better: world class power defending commodity routes, or self-sufficient state defending his borders. Only time will tell which defense posture is better.

USN has not have to defend the territory of the member states of the USA since, I think, the civil war. Two Alaskan islands were occupied by Japan during about a year during WWII, but Alaska became a state about fifteen years later. So all recent action by USN was in the middle of the oceans or on the other side. The LCSs Joshuatree rightly mentions are also intended for use on the other side and are not as robust as defensive ships would be. There is already mention of damage on that account. As PLAN is first of all intended to defend the mainland of China any direct comparison with USN is mistaken.

PLAN has already attain defend of China.. Now they are going another step of defending China. Which is to project power overseas so as to defend overseas asset and ensure supply of resources to fuel economy growth.

Clearly seeking carrier is to build up this purpose.

that likely has less to do with the plane's actual role than political correctness. hyuga is called a "helicopter destroyer," varyag is a "experimental test platform" (or "floating casino").

Just because you give something a nice sounding name doesn't mean it is what it is. (IAF calling Su-30MKI an "air dominance fighter" lol)

A seaplace, that's a rare sight. What are the military uses of seaplanes? Does any country use seaplanes in a military role anymore?

ASW, rescue at sea etc...

Only China and Japan use them still IIRC.

Advantage obviously is faster/better endurance compared to helicopters. But needs very flat/calm sea to land

That one seems to have been configured to ASW work. Just look at the MAD tail sting.

In addition to the roles Nayreco already mentioned, seaplanes would be useful to help supply and/or reinforce island garrisons where it is impractical or simply impossible to build a useful runway.

With the new Y8 MAPs coming online, I see island resupply as the main reason the PLAN would keep their seaplane fleet for.

That very flat/calm sea is a bit of an exaggeration. It has been known for sea planes to cross bow waves of fast vessels when they were too heavy to get off of a flat sea. And I have read that large flying boats can operate in pretty rough seas. Of course it is all a matter of compromises. I have no experience with them and have only seen them in the air.
