SR64 agording to some sources performs the same role as positiv-e and that is to be a search radar for Type 730 CIWS. Apparently the CIWS system isen't linked to the main radar set which would seek its targets.

YJ-62 has air, land and sea launched variants.

There is a possibility that the differently colored tube might be an LACM.

A LACM would be ship launched so it would make more sense to have it in naval ship colors. The camouflage makes sense only if that container came from a landbased application, which suggests from a coastal defence missile battery. THis would employ essentially the same fire control and allow for missile interoperability between land and ship based applications.

Basically if you have compatible coastal and ship based AshMs, any warship can come to any port that has an AshM battery and load up with the missiles, then go out fighting again. This makes great logistics and to keep up the tempo. It also verifies the existence of a land based version of the YJ-62, which up to now, has only been postulated. Given the potential range of this missile (300km est), that is some reach away from the coast.

Agree! Still, if you wanted to confuse any possible opponent about your capabilities, you might take a regular AShM container and camouflage paint it so make it appear there is a land-based coastal defence version.:coffee:

I don't see the point. The Chinese do not tend to exaggerate capabilities but rather prefer to hide them, so it will all bite you in your lower section when you least expect it, all in the classic Sun Tzu tradition. The pictures are not official and were taken by a snooping amateur photographer. Based on the series of pictures, the ship arrived there without that particular cannister, which only appeared after the ship was in the pier.

I agree with that. On the other hand, what you just said is exactly why such misinformation could work. Are there any other comfirmed sightings of camouflaged missile containers like these? What additional information is there with respect to a land-based coastal defense version of this missile (e.g. sketches, models, etc)

Re: DDG 052C Thread

Look back at post #113. That shows you also both a land based and an air launched variant.

Yes, I saw that. What I meant was, what else is there in addition? E.g. was there aver a model on some defence show, a hazy picture, some article reference etc? You know the stuff I'm talking about. If no picture yet, where would such a coastal defence system likely be found? Likewise, what would be the most logical place for the airlaunched variant to show up (obviously on Su-30, but how about H-6 and where?). Can we put it together?

Re: DDG 052C Thread

There was a model of the missile in a defense show, and that picture was part of the exhibit. As to the coast, China has a pretty big coast. As for air launched variant, no, not on the Su-30. The most logical place would be an H-6 variant, likely to be the new H-6K or the H-6M.
