Chinese Firm Signs Deal With Taliban to Produce Oil in Afghanistan

(Bloomberg) -- The Taliban-led administration in Afghanistan signed its first international contract Thursday to extract oil from the northern Amu Darya basin as the beleaguered group seeks to increase revenue.

The agreement with a subsidiary of China National Petroleum Corporation, was inked in Kabul in the presence of Chinese Ambassador to Afghanistan, Wang Yu, and the Taliban’s Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar

The pact will “strengthen Afghanistan’s economy and increase its level of oil independence,” Baradar said at the signing. Wang, whose country does not recognize the Taliban government, said the 25-year contract will support Afghanistan’s push for self-sufficiency.

Xinjiang Central Asia Petroleum and Gas Co. will invest as much as $150 million in the first year and $540 million over the subsequent three years to explore five oil and gas blocks, said Shahabuddin Delawar, the acting minister of mines and petroleum. The blocks are located in a 4,500-square-kilometer (1,737.5 square mile) area in northern Afghanistan.

The militant group will earn 15% royalty fees from the 25-year contract. Daily oil production will start at 200 tons and gradually rise to 1,000 tons. The five blocks are estimated to hold 87 million barrels of crude oil, according to a previous survey.

Americans are going to start malding again.

(John Bolton) to run for US president

Former US national security advisor John Bolton has said he plans to run for president in 2024, revealing in an interview with Good Morning Britain on Friday that he will challenge his former boss Donald Trump for the Republican nomination.

The notoriously belligerent Bolton, who served in the administrations of both Bushes and Ronald Reagan before his brief stint as Trump’s national security advisor, told the outlet his campaign will focus on a “much stronger foreign policy.

“I think it’s important that it’s understood not just in Moscow, but it’s understood in places like Beijing, that unprovoked aggression against your neighbors is not something the United States and its allies will tolerate,” he said.

I already know it’s dead on arrival but I wonder how bad a John Bolton Presidency would be.

99% of anglosphere fear-mongering against China is based entirely on projection. They think just because they would have invaded Siberia if they were in China’s position that of course that’s what China also wants and plans to do.

When you see random, nonsensical BS claims drop out of nowhere, odds are the Anglos have already did this horrible deed for real that they accuse China of wanting/planning to do.

Case in point is invading Russia. NATO has been edging ever closer since the end of the Cold War, and they would 100% go for it if they think they had the actual power to pull it off.

If Ukraine could magically beat the Russian army on the field, they absolutely would not be stopping at the pre-war boarders and would march on Moscow if they could.
Its just copium from them that China will magically bail them out.

China has everything they need from Russia without the drawbacks of actually administering Russia. Before Putin went off and started the war, the very last place he visited physically was China.

NATO got set up. Or more accurately, they made a play to turn Ukraine into a puppet state and it backfired on them. They were in denial about the fact that Russia is already far more influenced by China than they dared to hope for. This effectively made Russia sanctions proof.

Regardless of how much territory Russia ends up eating from Ukraine, as far as China is concerned, the moment Russian tanks went in the Ukraine and the west sent all their sanctions, Beijing already achieved what they need. What they care about is not how big Russia is, but that Russia can never become "western". The war was a giant fuck you to the whole oligarch faction that viewed themselves as honorary western elites and always wanted to associate themselves with "Europeans".

Some critics always say that US will win the cold war because China doesn't have its own EU, it doesn't have its own vassals which it can throw into the meatgrinder. Well, now China has it's own EU, and it comes with enough natural resources to supply a WW3 and 10x more nukes than EU has. And with China's nation building skills, they can ensure that it becomes more than an EU.

Regardless of what happens on the ground, China secured its stake as Russia's guarantor and what will be its main beneficiary.
