For the US the establishment of Fortress America from Canada down to Panama with South America as a neutral zone, for the Chinese the Sinosphere zone and ASEAN with the exception of the Philippines, Australia and New Zealand. Will the US reverse its Pivot to Asia, yes until the next Democrat administration since it was their project under OBAMA. South Koreans aren't individually stupid; they are amongst the highest academic performers in the US and in the world but here, they're like the retarded kid who raises their hand and gets it wrong when the teacher asks a rhetorical question. This is nonsense. If the US took the canal from Panama, China would strike the locks on the canal to render it useless during a Sino-US conflict. If the canal remains in hands of the Panama government that declares neutrality and allows equal access to the canal by both sides in the conflict, China will not touch the canal even if China is much less likely to need it.

I remember it was far less pronounced in Japan, which actually should be more extreme than Korea, but they somehow can see more clearly than Koreans. Taiwan is a place that has built its identity on hating China so I understand they can't think straight until we help them. Hong Kong, I'm not sure. Only if you polled during a cockroach riot before they all scurried off to the UK; regular street pollings of normal citizens I don't think would favor the US. The rest of Asia I don't think would fuck this poll up (Indonesia didn't) except the Philippines but they're known for being the stupidest type of Asian by far so I wouldn't think twice about them getting this one wrong as well.

These guys are arguing weather they should switch to follow Ming rule or stay with Yuan in 1388! Keep in mind old man Hongwu Emperor captured the Yuan capital and declared himself the emperor of the new Ming Dynasty in 1368! The reason during the late Goryeo vs now is the same too. It's because the ruling class have closely entangled themselves with the Suzerain state and their loyalty is the source of their political legitimacy. If they switch the Suzerain state then people outside the current elite will stand up and say "wait a second, you are Yuan/America puppet and enemy of Korean people. I am loyal to Ming/China and I'm on the side of the Korean people". That switch will never be a smooth and bloodless process, it's always going to result in a purge and replacement of the elite with a new bunch hence why the old elite resist it with all their resources.

I can't blame them for being unhappy about their time in the sun being cut short by China's rise. In the 2010s, South Korea was on top of the world and I guess they didn't expect that to end so abruptly.

South Korea spends around 5% of its GDP on R&D and still has a lot of potential, but it is being outcompeted by China and Taiwan on multiple fronts. TSMC is significantly ahead of Samsung and South Korea's memory industry, its last stronghold industry, is being threatened by CXMT and YMTC in China. Time is on China's side and I think they know it. I just don't see how South Korea could possibly compete with China once China's EUV lithography system rolls out.
