The US electricity consumption is projected to rise 13-15% yearly due to AI and datacenters. For a frame of reference it was 3800 TWh in 2005, and 4000 TWh in 2023. At 14% growth rate it would take about 5 years to double the electricity consumption, not sure how that can be achieved after 20 years of hardly any growth.
Even China would have trouble handling that much growth. The 4000 TWh to 8000 TWh growth in China happened around 2010-2020, taking 10 years. It's gonna take a monumental effort for the world to keep up with the energy expenditure with power generation and transmission.
