The big problem for Turkey is that their entire sales pitch to China was their customs union with the EU. The BYD factory was supposed to mostly sell to the EU. But the EU is now formulating new rules which would exclude Turkey's preferential treatment if BYD built a factory there.
So this isn't "China selling out Turkey". This is EU shutting Turkey out. But for some weird reason, the turks are lashing out at China. Stella Li of BYD has said publicly that the company's main focus is to increase production in Hungary. After that, they are scouting to find a second location inside of the EU.
In many ways, Turkey is trying to leverage its relationship with the EU in the same way that Israel tries to leverage its relationship with the US. But what happens when they can't? Their entire strategy falls to bits.
