look at my photo equation. they are using the side door.
V22 can't use it's side door to fast rope because of the proximity to the rotors. all fast roping form them is from the back door.
can still do it with Z9 though.

I meant like this.

true although it's a feature that is likely lost on the stealthhawk and on the JMR-M as the open door is unstealthy and increases drag.

You're right they can, but can they still dangle their legs over the side doors though?;)

Yea that's the most important thing so I can dangle my legs while wearing shorts and flips on a hot summer day. I don't care if one of them comes off.. I'll just kick the other off and get a new pair. Surely some mom down there can use a freebie to slap her kid in the face tonight for not washing the toilet.

If you ever get a chance to ride on the Blackhawk with your legs dangling on the side door while it doing turns and twist, it is FUN dude! My favorite is still when the pilot had the chopper at high altitude and than make a quick dip. It feels like riding a roller coaster is what I'm saying.:D

Man I'm so jealous hahaha. By the way why do you guys leave the door always opened? And it seemed like you guys are glued there and defying gravity.

You know Equation, you should share more of these stories of yours. I'm sure they will make a very awesome addition to the forum ;)

And for a nasty joke....while you're mentioning the fun, I was thinking of what happens if someone drank too much an hour ago and needs to take a leak real bad. Over typical climate and you get the golden shower. In a much colder climate like the Canadian Calgarian winter and there will be golden snow LOL.

This has to be some sort of milestone in reverse engineering... is China looking to tick off both the Russians and the US at the same time? Or maybe just the Russians if it is simply reconfiguring/combining Mi-17 innards into Blackhawk shape.

This isn't exactly Z-20 related but has the Mi-17 ever been configured with a door gun similar to the Blackhawk with a minigun? If so can someone please share a photo?

To hang out the door there is usually a seatbelt system, and sometimes a safety line.
one of the other users of those are marksman a sniper who is properly trained for it. Will harness themselves and there rifle to the bird and act as over watch. This is done not just by SF but also coast guards.

I don't think think the Russians ever used a door gun mini gun. I think they favored conventional MGs. Now though that may change with the KA60 series. The Chinese have shown two minigun models that could be used for Z20.

Those were at best manufacturer's initiatives, more of a "yes we can make stuff like that too" kind of thing, only if and when the PLA issued tender for something like that, went through all the selection process and got adopted then it'd be a reality.

A point. The "We didn't ask for it so we so we won't buy it" mentality is universal and a real problem sometimes. Fitting Z20 with a light weight like the type88 mg is a joke. And although older 7.62x54R are fine options a chopper in the support of infantry operations needs fire power.

LOL...so that an enemy RPG can just pass through without hitting the Blackhawk (inside joke)!

Now on a more serious note. The side doors is mostly open usually during air patrol so that the gunman can spot any strange activities on the ground, also because it makes extraction easier for either rappelling troops down rope or even carrying out the wounded when the Blackhawk do a medical evac. Remember its a utility helicopter with combat capability for support, therefore it's a busy chopper. They do closed the side doors depending on the situation and need.
