A good documentary on the principle design of submarine Some of the equipment are outdated like most valve these days are hydromechanical instead of pneumatic But the principle is still the same
A bit dry but interesting

The basic principles of design and operation is explained demonstrating the pressure hull, conning tower, control, bridge and engine compartments and crew responsibilities.

Is there any proof for this ? Looking at it, it could very well be a PR footage using an existing boat.
Also, if this is true then what is the total estimated number for the Type 039A/B/Cs ? I was hoping for a final number of no less then 40 boats.

The submarines are impossible to count, without any visible pennant, hardly any media covered commissioning and launches and so on. The last count which was way last year, was that 17 Yuans with 3 being refitted. It could be good to assume that the last three may have already been commissioned, one of them was a boat in the Jiangnan fitting yard, and is no longer seen in any photo or satellite image of that yard. As for construction we don't know. Even if there is photos of new subs being constructed which we appear to get time to time, without a time date, its impossible to tell if they are new or old construction, or maybe an older boat getting a refit.

Not sure where the 40 comes from. It should be at least 20 Yuans, 13 Songs, plus 12 Kilos. I hate using the Type 039 number as the Song itself, which is 039, has two three sail variations, and the Yuan, which is referred to as 039A, has three to four sail variations.
