Obama seems to be very vindictive when it comes to countries that don't follow the US. It's not bungling if it's true the NYPD got orders from higher-ups to do this. The normal protocol is expelling the diplomat. Maybe US diplomatic staff in India have gone under some harassment and this is a tit-for-tat.
Surprised that people have missed the big Ukraine story.
It looks like Putin and the Sino-Russian strategic alliance have done it again!
Hot on the heels of Syria and Iran, Putin (with it seems a little Chinese assistance) have pulled the plug on the latest EU expansion plan and left the potential colour revolutionaries in Kiev all dressed up but nowhere to go.
Putin and Yanukovych have agreed a deal in which Russia will buy some $15 Billion worth of Ukrainian bonds and slash the price of gas by a third. This is big economic news and the opposition (and their EU supporters) will have little or nothing to answer it with.
The nature of the Chinese Involvement is not entirely clear, but there is an general emerging picture about the Russian-Chinese partnership, where the "other" member acts to reassure countries that there interests will not be steamrollered by the larger neighbour with whom "history" is often "shared". We can see this in Russian involvement in countries like Vietnam and even India, while we now see a Chinese influence in the Ukraine and other countries such as Turkey.

Now the Indian government has transferred Devyani to their UN staff. So now there is no question that she enjoys full diplomatic immunity, the US has no choice but to release her soon.
According to this report, the State Department okay the arrest to send a message to India over differences regarding Bangladesh.
Really stupid move, the State Department should've anticipated the strong Indian reaction. Now the US is made to look undiplomatic and weak at the same time internationally, again.
Posters on Indian forum seems to agree with me this may be an American attempt to influence Indian election.

There are also speculations now that the maid may be an US agent. At least two members of her family work for the US government. The theory is that the maid was caught stealing secret information from Devyani. The immigration case was trumped up to cover her track. That's why the maid is been protected by the US government now and that's why her entire family was given emergency visa and flown out of India.

Here's the hidden truth of the Ukrainian Deal. The EU offered nothing. Ukraine is Bankrupt it needs a massive cash injection in order just to pay this months bills. The EU offered no such cash, Their is only one nation in the EU who could make such a infusion Germany but Merkel would demand the same kinda cuts to the Bone as those in Greece. All that was offered was a opening into the EU's markets. but Ukraine offers nothing that can be sold on the EU markets.The Ukraine is also not a nation who's economy is so independent as to be able to accept such a offer.
There are two Ukraine's, Western Ukraine including Kiev speaks Ukrainian, They have there roots in that of Poland and Lithuania. but eastern and southern Ukraine are Russian by tradition, by Tongue, by blood and by Markets.

So Poland has a interest in establishing a buffer to Russia, Also Poland wants to establish it's own fiefdom Poland has the population and resources to potentially with the right strategy rival Germany in the EU. And if Poland could pull another state into the Alliance with exceptionally close Polish interests, it could create a polish block.

And I agree. The spin being placed on it is farcical. Putin needs the Ukraine, its considered a major step back to prestige for Russia. And a benchmark for his legacy. He would have offered the moon for the Ukraine. The EUs counter offer was a "yah sure whatever"
