If some of the Uighurs have a problem with living peacefully with their fellow man kind in Xinjiang they can always leave. No body is forcing them to stay. So according to your logic the CPC should just cater to these few Uighur terrorists at every wilm until they get what they wanted?

That's not what I mean. The known universal formula to fester support for extremists is, to simply put, "blight". With less putting on prospering the economy and more on cracking down will always generate blight in the community, which extremists feed upon. So extremists always try to force the authority into more crackdown meanwhile sabotage the local economic development, pushing the locals into radicalization...

The problem now is, Beijing has given the Uighurs too much preferential treatment as it is, yet they still fall more towards the islamists...naturally the moderate policy will be very hard to sell now.

okay so according to the AP the people in the car were a a husband his wife and either his or her mother. This is odd as it does not conform to the classic suicide bomber. As they tend to be clinically depressed suicidal individuals lured into the act with the promise of paradise for there martyrdom. To be honest alot about the attack seems a little of the mark. I mean terrorist couldn't give a flying .... For symbolic attacks they want body count. The west gate was text book terrorism a enclosed shopping mall, lots of people few exits. The forbidden city although a tourist trap is to open and if you wanted to attack the Chinese why hit a tourist trap? Your more likely to end up like what happened lots of non Chinese. Its amateur. The whole thing seems off.

The wife and mother-in-law could be live cover so the vehicle was not stopped and searched on its long drive from Xinjiang to Beijing.

There is zero support for Xinjiang terrorists outside of Xinjiang, so the bomb would have had to be carries in the SUV all the way from whatever base these people had in Xinjiang. An SUV with Xinjiang plates and a long male drive may raise suspicious and get pulled over and searched long before it reached Beijing. A family traveling together will raise far few red flags.

I have also never heard of your interpretation about terrorists only caring about body count and don't 'give a flying...' About symbolism.

Terrorism's primary purpose is to make a political statement, and symbolism is everything. The higher profile the target, the more the terrorists advance their cause. Body count is one way to raise the profile of their attack to gain publicity, but hitting a famous landmark works just as good, if not better. Just think back to the IRA days, or ETA attacks, which are often characterised by bombs being planted in famous/public places with a warning phoned in before the bomb was set to detonate for the authorities can clear the area of civilians. Those were all terrorists attacks, but had zero body count.

Attacks designed to cause maximum casualties are often associated with jihadi terrorism, but really only took off as part of sectarian violence in Iraq. It's not really a typical terrorist goal because even Al-Q attacks typically favor high profile targets over just causing the maximum body count.

9/11 was pack with famous landmarks targets, the Times Square bombing attempt was also targeting the place as much as the people, with a similar theme to the Boston Marathon bombing.

This attack was aimed at Tiananmen Square because the location is famous enough to draw international attention, and also because the highway running in from of it allow them easy access with zero local support.

A precautionary tale for any businessman

Brazilian oil tycoon nears bankruptcy

Company owned by Eike Batista, who boasted he would be richest man in world, asks for protection from creditors

Brazilian billionaire Eike Batista with a Mercedes-Benz SLR he kept in his sitting room.

The Brazilian owner of an oil company who – less than two years ago – boasted that he was on course to become the richest man in the world, took the first step in filing for bankruptcy yesterday after one of the most spectacular falls in global corporate history.

Lawyers from Eike Batista's firm OGX said they had asked a court in Rio de Janeiro to grant them protection from creditors.

The bankruptcy – said to be the biggest ever seen in Latin America – is the latest stage in the rapid break-up of the empire built by Batista, whose wealth was estimated at $34.2bn in March 2012.

Back then, his companies were expanding aggressively into offshore oil and gas fields, planning to build the biggest shipyard in the southern hemisphere, and bidding for everything from world cup stadium management to entertainment licenses.

But poor output from OGX's wells has prompted major investors to pull out of Batista's companies even more quickly than they rushed in. The share price of OGX has plummeted, and earlier this month the company failed to make an interest payment.

If the court approves the request, OGX will have 60 days to come up with a corporate restructuring plan.

The 56-year-old Batista – a former racing car driver – has already sold off his fleet of six private planes and helicopters, according to local media, and is dismantling his yacht.

Batista's demise may also have a wider impact on confidence in the economy, which limped along last year with growth of less than 1%.

I'm sure he is not the first guy who thought about taking his mother in law along for a suicide bombing.

The only "blight" existed in the Xinjiang province are the ones invented by the media and separatists playing the drama oppression card. If the government don't crack down on these terrorists cells, like a cancer, it can spread harm to the EVERYBODY living in that region. Not every Uighur will fall into the Islamist radical groups and not every one will follow the radicals cause either. That's why it's important to obliterate the terrorists groups within as expediently as possible and at the same time don't let outside opposition fake rights groups interfere with your work either.

Oh, when it comes to Xinjiang and Tibet, the hypocrisy in the western media is unreal at times, especially when you contrast that to American wars and domestic policies.

Its best to just tune out the blatant BS and not get too worked up by all the double standards and theatrics. The more the western media tries to spin stories, the more obvious how full of it they are to everyone.

And the more the Chinese mainland and over seas reads it, the less credibility those western media will have. These media thinks they can bully any country foreign policy they can with their BS.

Or the terrorist's wife and mother-in-law didn't even know he was using them to carry out his suicide bombing. This is normally a crazy thing to do but not so for the terrorist.

Well, I won't pretend to be a policy expert, but I will note that this is hardly the first time China has dealt with a rebellious population. Whether it's angry farmers or violent separatists, the basic approach has always been harsh crackdown in the immediate aftermath, and slowly introduce reforms to address the root cause of the violence.

Honestly, this incident is not even a blip compared to the massacre that happened in 2009. There is no reason to think that the Chinese government will change their policies based on this incident.

But in HK, you still got tons of morons who'd buy into those BS, and think waiving those banners outside the PLA garrison HQ is being "cool"...and they ain't teenagers no more, some almost 30 years old...
