When US sells the Apache to Taiwan, will this pose a serious threat to China?

Combat radius of Apache is more than adequate to cross the strait, hence it can attack targets on the mainland.

Helicopters are very vulnerable to SAMs, especially to shoulder mounted ones. So don't get too cocky about them.

guys, look trust me. The purchase of a hundred Apache will have little significance if depending on the model. IE long bow with waveMili radar and the hellfire2.

The systems such as the Hellfire be it land or air-based is the real threat to the OPFOR of the ROC. not the Apache.

REMEMBER, the karbala Gap incident. whole Apache Bat shot to shit cause they went in...eyes on and cutting grass. Were engaged with 14.5mm to 30mm and came out of it with their tail between their legs.

doctrine is Kiowa looks out 5,000 feet up, Apache sets out cutting grass with the Hellfire in shoot the stars mode. Kiowa just designates targets for the hellfire system. Karbala gap commander thought he was a tank battalion for some reason and soon learned his lesson by charging in like that.

Apache will play 30mm when in open desert but not in urban area. an Apache in open sea at say 10 meters is DOA....period.

As for the little Islands that border the PRC...forget about it. 1,000 tubes of arty and Rockets turn those puppies to Krakatoa...NO helo operations after that.

Too true, utelore. US Army doctrine says that the Attack and Reconnaissance Helicopter Battalions are Manoeuvre Units, not Combat Support Units, whereas the USMC consider them to be Combat Support, and as such not intended to charge right in and go-to-toe with the enemy. As a result, ARH Battalions may well do just what happened in the Karbala Gap. And insurgents in Iraq have taken advantage of the terrain in certain areas to set up Heavy Machine Guns in the AAA Ambush role to take down Apaches who are prone either to use certain air routes or to close to knife-fighting range to deal with targets. Sometimes those "targets" are bait for ambushes with HMGs and sometimes portable SAM.

It's important to recognize the Apache's limitations (technical and tactical) as well as its capabilities; it's also important to give it the proper role, and as Taiwan receives US Army training for its Apaches, it may end up adopting its doctrine as well. Gotta be careful.

Insurgence uses alot of RPG recoiless, medium/high caliber AA. The question is do they have redeye, Igia, stinger, strela or Anza in Iraq.
I suspect they don't have many there, else US can't operate their helicopter.

news reported only 30 Apache sell to Taiwan, not some body said a hundred.so,I think the The appliances weapons will come shortly.
however, this is bad news for China.
China is mad now,China will do some thing else Retaliation, such as sell some thing to Iran....
this time China is very strong reaction from the beginning, some tension in Sino-US relations,Kitty Hawk was refused visit Hong Kong, another warship also was refused.and Kitty Hawk sail through Taiwan Strait, was under Surveillance by JH7a fighters.
this batch of Apache to PLA's landing disadvantage.
what China can do let US cancel this sale?

Yeah,I heard china is really mad now, they are starting to modify Song submarine's active sonar to broadcast Britney Spears "oops, I did it again". I agree that's more powerful than selling weapon to Iran.

Apparently Taiwan originally requested the Block II, but the US now appears to be offering Block III. Hellfire II has already been sold to Taiwan.

Nothing that I can think of. President Bush approved the sale of Apaches back in 2002, so there's little China could do to change his mind now.

attack helicopter can't operate without air superiority, PLAN Marines would just have to delay landing until they have control of airspace.

And there is the magic of things... the PLA invasion is delayed, while the American can send more reinforcements to backup Taiwan.

In a invasion of Taiwan scenario, time works against the PLA. The longer it takes to get an invasion set up and going, the more time the Taiwanese and the Americans can move in reinforcements.
