Hey! What the heck! How dare local law enforcement prevent supremely enlightened Westerners from doing whatever they please? Don't they know Westerners have the right to do whatever they want in brown-skinned countries? The world is upside down.

I do not like how they handled this at all. The Chinese were very unprofessional here. They should have showed up in uniform, spoke to him in perfect Chinese, "This is a restricted area. If you do not leave, you will be forcibly removed." And if he did not immediately comply, club him and his translator over their heads with a police baton, confiscate their film, and deport them as criminals.

These people are disgusting! However, such extreme groups are tiny minorities, and are widely condemned by Americans everywhere. You know what else? The First Amendment gives Americans the right to Free Speech, even ones the government doesn't like. That's one of the major difference between America and the People's Republic of China; citizens don't get arrested for peacefully gathering to voice their opinions and concerns.

These maybe a minority but they are growing...fast, just like Nazism.
There's a big difference between protesting out of "free speech" and protesting for regime changing. China's been doing free speeching in every shape and form long before the First Amendment was even created and the CPC allows protesting as long as it doesn't cause chaos and acts of violence. If a small number of Taiwanese protesters starts to demand a changing government into a more Communism one would you be bragging about free speech and such? I thought so.

The big lead in popular vote is misleading for two major reasons, election strategy and absentee ballots. Due to the Electoral College system favoring smaller states, election strategies revolve around maximizing 270+ counts and not total popular votes. Had the latter been the determination for victory, then Trump would have campaigned much differently. On absentee ballots, some states don't count them unless the election margins are thin. Therefore, a lot of military ballots aren't counted, and history show military votes skew heavily towards the GOP.

Bottom line is Hillary might have close to 3 million more popular votes than Trump, but it doesn't matter at all in the US Presidential election system, if she can't win 270 Electoral College votes.

So the system is rigged in a certain way where NOT all votes are equal.

As if you need another reason to eat more cheese, new research suggests that certain types of this rich dairy staple may be able to promote heart health and even extend your lifespan.

A new

published in the journal Nature Medicine revealed that spermidine, a compound found in many naturally occurring substances such as certain cheeses, mushrooms, and (you guessed it) semen, led to better heart function and longer lives in mice. And while it’s too soon to say if the same results could be reproduced in humans, according to the researchers, it's not that far-fetched.

Spermidine, a natural compound that was first isolated in semen, was found to extend the lifespan of lab rats even when the supplement was not given to them until middle age. Although spermidine has previously been found to extend the lifespan of more simple organisms such as fruit flies and yeast, this is the first time the research has been reproduced in such a complex organism.

“The mice do not only live longer, when we supplement spermidine to the drinking water, but they are also healthier in terms of cardiac function,” study co-author Dr. Frank Madeo from Medical University of Graz in Austria explained to Medical Daily in a recent email.

Their research revealed that spermidine induces autophagy, which causes heart cells to disable parts of themselves that are dysfunctional or no longer necessary. As a result, the mice given spermidine also have better heart function and lower blood pressure, all which eventually led to longer lifespans.

For the study, some mice were given water mixed with spermidine and some were given plain water. Results showed that mice given spermidine repeatedly outlived those who were given plain water. This trend still remained even when the researchers purposely raised the mice’s blood pressure with a high-salt diet.

While it’s far too early to confirm that spermidine would have the same effect on humans, according to Mateo, spermidine levels decline in the blood serum of humans with the exception of centenarians, where concentrations remain high. This may suggest the supplement plays a role in the aging process.

“We are planning a trial where we administer spermidine to humans and measure their cardiac function,” Mateo told Medical Daily.

As for sources of spermidine, the compound can also be found in whole grains and even semen, although according to study co-author Dr. Simon Sedej, also from the Medical University of Graz, dietary supplements might be a more effective way to get spermidine in your diet.

This is not the first time that spermidine has been associated with exceptional health benefits. For example, a

. According to the researchers, if the same was found to be true in humans, it could not only have implications as a sleep aid, but may also help to curb age-related disease.

The people have spoken! And yet the government and the system denied their voices...again (remember Al Gore's back in 2000?). Either update the system or get rid of it all together and go with meritocracy, and the PRC is the gold standard. After all they did uplift 800 million people out of poverty and another hundreds of millions or so into middle. No government or god(religious institutions) in the history of mankind had ever accomplish such a feat.

Governor Tsai Ing-win is playing with fire if she thinks making trouble between Taiwan and Mainland China will do anything remotely positive for the province she was elected to govern. I hope the State Department makes it clear to the woman US will not be her catspaw in whatever independence fantasy she has in mind. Play with the lives of Taiwanese if she wants, but not with American lives.

TAIPEI (Reuters) - Taiwan is updating its foreign ministry website listing the times it says China blocked its international space, a move endorsed by the island's independence-leaning ruling party on Thursday.

The list, last in use when the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) was last in power from 2000-2008, comes after official communication channels between Taiwan and China ceased with Taiwan President and DPP leader Tsai Ing-wen taking office in May.

China says Taiwan is part of "one China", ruled by Beijing. It regards the island as a renegade province, ineligible for state to state relations, to be united by force if necessary.

"I don't know the details of the updates," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said on Wednesday in Beijing when asked about the website.

"On 'Taiwan's international space' issue, we have always stressed the 'one China' principle and its handling. This is also the general consensus in the international community."

Taiwan has only a handful of allies in the world, including the Vatican. In March, China resumed ties with the small west African state of Gambia, one of only a few African countries, along with Burkina Faso, Swaziland and São Tomé and Príncipe, to recognize Taiwan.

China's actions "will only increase a negative perception" of China by Taiwan and "adversely affects the long-term relationship" of both sides, DPP spokeswoman Chiu Li-li said in statement.

The list includes working-level international meetings Taiwan delegations were barred from attending, sometimes due to their Taiwan passports, the ministry said.

It also includes a snub by a UN aviation agency from inviting Taiwan to a meeting in September. Taiwan is not a member of the United Nations, which recognizes China.

The most recent incident on the list involves the title of former Taiwan president Ma Ying-jeou in the handbook of an international conference he attended in Malaysia last week.

His title was changed to "former leader" from "former president", according to the ministry.

Beijing distrusts the DPP because it traditionally advocates independence for Taiwan, which has been self-ruled since Chiang Kai-shek's defeated Nationalists fled to Taiwan in 1949 after losing the Chinese civil war with Mao Zedong's Communists.

There's absolutely nothing indicating that these people were law enforcement. For all we know, they could be villagers hired by the BBC to put on this show in order to fit their narratives.

Think that's outlandish? Consider this:

You have to wonder, what was the BBC reporter doing that attracted so much attention in the first place?

That's true; never thought about that. These guys made fools out of themselves. They were in China and they didn't have the confidence to speak Chinese to the foreigner; rather he did all the talking in English and the Chinese guys looked like they were unreasonable. If they weren't hired by him, they should have spoken to him in Chinese and if he didn't understand or tried to push his way through anyway, it would be completely his fault for not understanding the language of the land he's in. He's got a translator, so she should tell him that he's in danger of bodily harm if he doesn't comply with police orders. If he tried to push his way past despite an ongoing conversation about why he can't go there, then they could beat him till his brains splatter out from his ears and deport him back to wherever the heII he's from so he can tell all his friends about that time he thought the Chinese police were just playing and that's why now, after a decade of reconstructive surgery, he still looks like a piece of abstract art.

Great link, and its good to see there are some reporters from the West that show a lot more integrity in their reporting.

The great thing about Wade Shepard is that while he certainly does have preconceptions, he's not afraid to challenge them. He keeps an open mind about foreign culture and society all the while maintaining his own values.

Reading his blogs, you really get a sense of how an American sees China, without all the preconceptions built up by mainstream media.
