Its actually concerning if China had no clue at all about this operation. I'd think that chinese intel and their sats could at least catch and predict US force mobilization.

But what do I know
Chinese intel is never their strong forte, they have a different principle foundation of not meddling others not because they are saints but they are realists and pretty follow Mao's 'you do yours I do mine' control the parts they can control (which is not a bad thing)

China ran an empire for 3000+ years bro. There's one commonality among Chinese enemies. Just ask where the Xiongnu, Xianbei, Abbasid Caliphate, Mongolia and Manchuria are now.

This is quite a bad and irrelevant take.

China ran an empire that had no real external challenges. In the ancient world, it was mostly internal conflicts and pathetically weak external threats.

The first time China met against properly organised external threat in the form of European imperialist powers, it resulted in China's greatest decline and turmoil in its entire written history. In the modern era, those European/Western imperialist powers are even stronger than they were in the past and even more organised. They do not fight among each other for scraps anymore they act in line as a unit. There is bulletproof loyalty and unity when it comes to the Western alliance even non-western people fall in line because they get live the benefits.

There is quite a lot of "cope" and bad takes in this forum sometimes where we project China's phenomenal material capability with its ability to navigate geopolitics. China is a total loser in geopolitics and gets its name dragged through the mud all the time.

We need to understand this if we are to fix it. It's the job for Chinese leaders to understand this properly and figure out solutions. If they can't, may as well be a Japan level underling. At least people can live well. Alternative is to go absolute scorched earth. I personally think Chinese leaders have all this in mind but understand the relative standing of power here is not entirely in its favour when it comes to matching not only the US but also every single one of its allies combined.

I agree, I think China needs to take that very seriously and work for countermeasures to deal with that.

But I have the personal feeling that the Trump, mostly Rubio, "doctrine" is to abandon the world, Europe, the Middle East and Asia, to take over the Americas. If you think about it, the region has the energy resources, the minerals and the cheap labor to the point that US maybe won't need anything from Asia or the Middle East. With that and moving IC manufacturing from Taiwan to the US and IC packaging to the US, Mexico or the Caribbean the US could cut their military alliances all over the world.

I think is pipe dream because a lot of countries in Latin America are not that close to the US and the big powers in the region have their own agendas. But gives that sensation.

They actually do have this luxury because they are considered the wealthiest and most "proper" people. This is what centuries of brainwashing does. They will absolutely be able to control and exercise dominion over Latin America. Covertly or otherwise, they will manage to achieve this.

I agree that the US appears to want to cash in some of the good guy points in exchange for some material wealth and power. They'll take the perception hit but will survive it. They need more money, resources and energy to compete with China and no one is able to threaten the US backyard. It'll be their farmland - data centres, resource wells, cheap labour. It's a clash of empires now. USA vs China. Difference is USA surrounds China with military bases and China isn't able to extract benefits from its region at all. Mostly done at loss. Do you guys know how charitable China is to countries in SE Asia and Africa? How many free handouts that could have benefited China that were given away for zero gain? Buy a few words of favour here and there but material resources wasted on trying to flirt with nations. US just takes it all and takes it for free. You can't beat that.
