The US removed Saddam Hussein from power in a few months. How did that work out for them in Iraq?

The US constantly suffers from Hollywood-esque thinking. Maduro is just a leader, he can be easily replaced. Venezuela might not be able to stand up to the US militarily, but that doesn't mean the US will get what it wants.
Seems a fair number of folks here also share this Hollywood-esque thinking.

I don't think he's really thought that far though, he's just saying things.
Honestly it really don't look like they thought that far ahead.

I mean Trump first wrote off their puppet Machando out of the blue, pointing out the obvious fact that she has no legitimacy, then claimed Maduro's VP Delcy Rodríguez was going to work with him only for her to go on TV to demand Maduro's release and say he's the only real president.

The more we know the more it feels like US really did believe Maduro was personally holding it all togehter, everyone else all secretly love America and they'll just manifest control of the country the moent Manduro is gone.

Maybe we're all misjudging the reasons for this operation. Perhaps it's not about oil, or keeping China out, or drug smuggling or whatever. Perhaps the real reason is that, if VZ is stabilised, there will be less of a problem deporting miillions of Venezuelans, or maybe Venezuelans, back there from the USA?

Trump: “So we are going to run the country until such time is we can do a safe, proper and judicious transition, and it has to be judicious, because that’s what we’re all about. We want peace, liberty and justice for the great people of Venezuela, and that includes many from Venezuela that are now living in the United States and want to go back to their countries, their homeland.

Counterpoint: this was Trump's off-ramp:
Further note: It's not about oil (unless due to a MAJOR due diligence failure):

No one bother to fight for Maduro. Effectively the mandate to rule was lost a long time before today. I don't know who they will fight for but it might not be for a US puppet either.
