The timing of Maduro's capture (Jan 3) also sends a strong symbolic message to Iran. It took place on the anniversary of Soleimani's assassination.

Six years ago on Jan 3rd 2020, Qasem Soleimani was killed by an American drone strike ordered by Trump.

Its actually concerning if China had no clue at all about this operation. I'd think that chinese intel and their sats could at least catch and predict US force mobilization.

But what do I know
Chinese Intel is full of American moles, I am not surprised.

Chinese intel is never their strong forte, they have a different principle foundation of not meddling others not because they are saints but they are realists and pretty follow Mao's 'you do yours I do mine' control the parts they can control (which is not a bad thing)
I think you need to consider your perception that Chinese intel is not strong, and compare that with how China navigated global geopolitics over the last 70 years, and ask yourself some simple questions.

I think Trump is just better at the media game. He knows straight talk is easier for regular people to understand. Instead of virtue signaling with political correctness, he is appealing to base instincts like greed and aggression (the whole screw around and find out thing). It also fits with trump’s transactional nature. The cost of US military strike is to be repaid by Venezuelan resources.

It comes across as authentic less phony unlike a politician or an elite. It plays well with his supporters as if people genuinely believed the whole spreading democracy excuse after Iraq. From Trump’s POV, if US is gotta get criticized for its imperial desires anyway might as well lean into it.

That's too bad. Imagine if China was able to broadcast the invasion time like what US did to Russia. That would be something

Then please enlighten us. I am all ears
The envoy's job is to advance China's interest, and China's main interest vis a vis Venezuela is that it stays cooperative with China, regardless of who's in charge.
With Trump throwing Machando under the bus and Venezuela stable under Rodríguez so far, China's interest hasn't been harmed yet has it.
At end of the day you just have to look at what actually happens.

China does not do shows, it simply does, at least for its military.

Also, the people demoralizing, if China wanted to fight and win a war it could use the largest manufacturing industry seen in human history to wipe NATO off the map if it wished.
