It's the same story Russian POWs were telling. They got duped into thinking they were going to an exercise and once handed live ammo they were threatened to be killed if they didn't follow orders.

Now we are seeing Buryats, Dagestani's and Chechens in the fight while the Kazachs have wisely declined.

You must also think Enemy at the Gates was a documentary that narrated how in Stalingrad, those who retreated got shot and one soldier would carry the gun while the other would carry only the ammo, then.

An IR satellite photo of the Russian fuel train that was struck by the TB-2 drone. If this is true, the fire spread to about 1km in length. Allegedly, this train was attacked in Crimea. Quite a score for the little drone.

So, can most of us, here, agree, that, despite justified grievances, this invasion was premature, executed fairly poorly, and possibly unnecessary?

Or, not!

Btw, the liveuamap server seems to be down.
Nope. I'm still team Russia ride or die. Down with imperialism! Quitting when you're close to winning will make everything for nothing.

It's a political and diplomatic war now. And the Russian/Soviets are the masters at that, there's a reason the games called Russian roulette. Both sides will blink and come to an agreement just like they did each time they had to in the Cold War.

The Brits have already backed of from their regime change plan and we're not even at DEFCON 1 yet.

Interesting podcast about the War [From a Russian expert in the US who is from Ukraine. He is not biased]

Quick summary
  • Russia wanted to quick and dirty war (Crimea 2.0). Secure the south while avoiding cities and create a land bridge to Crimea while rushing to Kyiv to cause the govt. to collapse.
  • While doing that also push a small units forward to cause the Ukrainian military to collapse.
  • A reason why Russian propaganda machine is MIA is because this war is they wanted to keep this war from their public. This explains why they never use the term "invasion" or "war" and are instead calling this "special operation." This war was very unpopular in Russia
They essentially underestimated Ukrainian resolve and assumed the west won't overreact. But they miscalculated.

This explains why we're not seeing RuAF or the Russian artillery and why we are seeing this mess of the Russian small groups going into cities and suburbs and driving around without purpose AND getting picked off.

Going forward, I think the Russian will retool and reassembly and re-adjust. I think they will bring the big guns because at this point Putin essentially bluffed charged to scare his opponent--Ukraine--but instead got punched in the face. The west are bringing the Russian economy to its knees and the country is getting isolated from Europe. He essentially has nothing else to lose.

This war is about to get a lot worse with so many civilians and troop casualties unfortunately.

Did you really expect Kiev to fall in 5 days?

What should the measure of success be?

I think reaching Kiev outskirts in 5 days is a success. I think forces in South doing exceptionally well. I think forces in North could have done slightly better but the front is more than 1,000km so even that is fair play. I think Russian AF is not still 100% in the game and RuAF should have done a better job. Do not forget literally whole West is supporting Ukraine with everything they have short of sending soldiers. What did you expect?

In my book, if Kiev falls less a than 3 weeks and black sea coast is captured in same time, it is a huge success for Russia.

But all these are tactical.

Strategically speaking, Ukraine is big gain for Russia and from this point on I think Putin will annex the whole thing to Russia.

USA played perfectly too. Finally they isolated Russia completely. I mean even Iran and North Korea face much less sanctions :) At least their football teams can participate international events. :D

Anyhow, winners will be USA and China. Losers will be Ukraine and EU. Russia will be a loser, too if this goes more than couple months. However less than a month, Russia wins a whole country.

Defcon 1 is when nukes fly, Defcon 5 is normal...
