They can take off from highways as well. I wouldn't be surprised if that's what they're already doing with the TB-2s.
Were those aircraft are gonna be refueled?
A part from that Russia had long range radars than can spot those aircraft fast, those jets are not gonna last too long.
Ironically drones are their best option to help them resist for while, cheap, small, can fly from anywhere, easier to conceal and the lost of one is not as bigger deal as to lose an aircraft and a pilot, at least from a PR standpoint.

Yes and no.
I am not defending Putin or Russia in my post. I am only pointing out who is responsible for China and Europe's departure from one another. Those things I listed happened before Ukraine crisis.

Russia pushed Europe right into US hands.
Whether Russia pushed Europe into US hands means nothing to the already deteriorating relationship between China and Europe.
So if US is behind it all what does that make Putin?
None of Chinese's business.

A tool which he is clearly not.
Nobody is seeing Putin as a tool. Not China at least. Maybe people in the US always see other people as merely a tool, but that is totally another world.

He simply made an error of judgement out of ego and hurt pride which both the US and China will now happily capitalise on.
Putin made a call that Russia has no better choice. Today's Russia is not China with the economy clout who can influence things without shooting. Today's Russia is like China before 1990s, economically weak and militarily weak. If US encouraged Taiwan to seek formal independence back then, Deng Xiaoping would have made the very same decision as Putin did today, regardless the cost. Also remember China did "invade" Vietnam and got condemned by half of the world (all Europe east and west, most Americas except US and some Africans), call that error of judgement or ego or pride as you will.

No, only the US would be happy to capitalize on Russia's suffering. China won't. People don't capitalize on their ally's lose, at least not Chinese. Chinese step in to fill the vacancy left by EU to help Russia, but you may choose the word "happily capitalize" as you wish.
