They can take off from highway as a stunt, as a routine operation? Not so much

They need to manage interference from civilian traffic, needs to provide fuel and munition stockpile, communication equipment ... etc They need relatively straight and well conditioned stretch of road which there are only a finite number of choices, once they take of or land the location is immediately exposed.... All the hazel for no gain at all

Taiwan also entertained this idea many years ago and promptly gave up on it.

TB-2 though is definitely operating from highway
It figures the Russians were lying to sell weapons of limited utility!

Weren't these MiGs supposed to join up with Ukraine yesterday? If it there was a delay hopefully that is a sign of some sort of deescalation is going on behind the scenes.
I doubt a whole lot of those aircraft are even serviceable.

Fuel and bomb up in Poland/Rumania, do a quick touch and go in Ukraine for formality's sake, kill Russians, quick touch and go on the way back then fuel and bomb up again.
If you do that, under the rules of law of war, you are a belligerent in the conflict.

Agreed. With the "nuclear" economic war started, Russia has nothing left more to lose on basically annexing the whole Ukraine if it wanted to do do. The only disadvantage would be insurgency but that's up to the Russians to calculate if its on their benefit.

People have still not realised what has happened now. Russia now has the ability to attack, invade, annex, split countries, fund and arm separatists, cut off trade etc

The only one which can moderate Russia now is China. Expect a lot more country leaders to be calling Xi from now on.
No, not really.
The only power Russia has left in Europe is to initiate nuclear war.
The cold war NATO nuclear deterrent never went away and will put at the forefront again.
With immense public support.
It could do a few shenanigans in countries outside NATO or EU but not many of those anymore.
Scarry times tho.
