The Nazis treated them worse than the Soviets ever did yet they all line up to suckle on Germany's teat. Russia is poor, Germany is rich.

The only reason why eastern Europeans want to be part of NATO is they believe it will speed up EU membership and make them less poor.

Just today the Ukrainian president asked to have their EU application sped up. You're being invaded man, get your priorities straight.

Germany renounced Nazism, whereas Putin openly laments the loss of Soviet territories. But your logic is 100% correct, maybe NATO membership would speed up EU membership which will pull Ukraine out of economic poverty faster than Eurasian Union ever would.

Well, Russia has a GDP smaller than Guangdong, China, so it's a lot easier to cut off SWIFT to an economic minnow than an economic superpower like China.
I would have never thought that the US and Canada would arrest Meng. I would never think that the West would go so low by claiming China committed genocide in XJ so that they could impose sanctions to XJ so that the living standard in XJ would never be improved. You want to bet on it that it would never happen.
Only a select number of banks were kicked off SWIFT, so Germany can still pay Russia for it's gas imports, which satisfied Wall Street, Big Corporations, and Billionaire class of avoiding an European energy crisis rippling throughout the world. These Capitalists are flexible in their Russia- or China-hating ideology when the costs are too high.
That's called salami slice tactic. Many European countries can't afford to totally decouple from Russia so they take one step at a time. Just a few days ago, we all thought SWIFT is off the table because it is so detrimental to both Russia and the EU.

In my view going for major cities is not the best strategy if you're Russia. Urban fighting offers the most chances for asymmetric warfare, especially where Ukrainians are more familiar. If you have an advantage in terms of mechanized armor, the best option would be to seize the countryside and trap your opponents in urban centers, ala the Chinese civil war.

Something that has not really been discussed here thus far is the implications of the Russian invasion in terms of its effects on Russian national security; I.E. the material losses on Russian military forces.

The Russians are dedicating large amounts of munitions, cruise missiles, and other disposable systems to the Ukranian front which, although can be replaced cannot be replaced very quickly leading to what I can assume will be scarcity in these items for atleast a year or two if the conflict further escalates and the Ukrainians continue to hold out.

Further more Russian ground forces are taking larger than expected losses in armored forces and aerial assault units [I.E. Helicopters] which, although aren’t the most advanced units in service that are being deployed, will weaken over all military positioning at the end of the conflict. Assuming that they replace the losses, even if they pull existing tanks and vehicles out of reserve it require major modernization and will take time; Russian industry is not comparable to that of the Soviet Union, and their losses are already in the millions dollars.

I could be wrong however my take is that the losses the Russians are taking in their war with Ukraine is overall going to put further strain on their forces where it is not needed.
