Why can't it be a methodical assault, with destruction in detail, while avoiding collateral damage? And what's so wrong with the pace of operations so far?

The forward progress seems fine. It's not "slow." I don't know why people are expecting magic ("magic" costs a lot of logistics resources.) Also, keep in mind, most of the advances of the Russian forces take place during the night. They seem to consolidate during the day and advance at night. So let's see what happens on Night 3.
I also feel this of the case. They are not going full force as they are still trying to limit casualties And trying to still get Ukrainians to surrender or those of Russian descent to support their cause.

I feel they are also doing the age old strategy of advancing while offering negotiations. Slowly racheting up the pressure. It does cause more lives this way, but I bet that if they had gone full force from the beginning, they would still be sanctioned the way they are and social media would be filled with Russian war crimes and indiscriminate killings.

Additionally some that support Russian cause would be even more pressed to support them. I suspect there is a lot of shadow banning of the Russian narrative, but there may be more underground support for the Russians in Ukraine than we realize. we are just inundated with western PR. Time will tell.

I don't see how the situation is comparable. The U.S. was the premier economic and technological power during its occupation of Japan, Iraq, and SK. No one placed any tech embargoes or economic sanctions against the U.S.
Who would put economic sanctions on the US? China? China has a lot of assets in the US that the US could "acquire" not to mention the $1.1 trillion portion of our national debt ($234 billion to Taiwan) we could write off. It would be in the interest of both countries to just let Taiwan remain Taiwan. Everybody wins that way.

Well, it would also indicate the Russians have NVGs and thermal imagers.
Presumably the Ukrainians do not.

So if the Russians "own the night", then logically that is the best time to conduct offensive operations.

During the day, the Russians can stay on the defensive and wait for Ukrainian units to move during the daytime. But movement during the daytime exposes them to aerial surveillance and attack.

Xi is far far smarter than Putin. The usual western delusional people think that Xi is an idiot or a low IQ person.

Joke on them though, no General Party Secretary is an idiot, and doubly so when passing Anti-Corruption, SCS, Trade War, HK, Xinjiang, Covid successfully.

He may seem slow but the moment he calculates that he has the upper hand he will utterly demolish you. His political acumen and strategic vision are simply incredible
At least President Xi Jinping isn't a stable genius like Trump.
