I don't get why some people seem to be ignoring the fact that MAD works MUTUALLY. By your logic, the US could just nuke Kaliningrad and demand from the Kremlin to accept Georgia and Ukraine into NATO along with a Belarusian regime change by nuclear ultimatum.
Where comes the idea from that Russians are so keen on burning in nuclear fire?
No, Ukraine and Georgia are Russian sphere of influence. Russia has more stakes in the matter and would be more likely to use nukes. Same thing with North and south America, the US would have the advantages and call it bluff.

An interesting story on the contribution of Elon's Starlink to the Ukranian war effort.
Amid Internet and power outages, which are expected to get worse, Ukraine is turning to the newly available Starlink system for some of its communications. Drone teams in the field, sometimes in badly connected rural areas, are able to use Starlink to connect them to targeters and intelligence on their battlefield database. They can direct the drones to drop anti-tank munitions, sometimes flying up silently to Russian forces at night as they sleep in their vehicles.
I wonder if current ASAT weapons are a cost-effective counter to SpaceX's Starlink. A Falcon9 can put 50 of these satellites in orbit in a single launch. Elon stated in 2019 that the each satellite costs well below $500,000.

Thing is, the Monroe Doctrine of the US never really went away, while Russia lost its grip on its sphere of influence for about 15 years. Stopping the NATO eastward advance is one thing, turning back the wheel to 1997 another. The latter is, in my opinion, just not possible. The west used a period of Russian weakness to encroach on its soi, Russia should just stop the further encroachment and call it a day. The window of opportunity for the minor countries surrounding Russia to slip into the arms of NATO is closed. The west should have accepted this fact.

Didn't the Ukrainian vice president say that they needed guns and not bed sheets?

Screw the clown, China do it for China, Russia, Ukrainian people and maybe some good karma. I believe it is in Russia's interest to avoid humanitarian crisis in their controlled area, if they want pro-Russian politician running the place they better start buying some heart and minds.

Not if NATzO's main benefactor the US experience a USSR style collapse. When the US is taken out of the picture, both the UK and France wouldn't dare stop Russia's liberation of its occupied baltic territories. This is why it is essential for both Russia and China to work closely to collapse the US to ensure a thousand year period of peace and prosperity while at the same time increasing their nuclear arsenal tenfolds as an insurance in case of increased American aggression.

I wonder if orbits of stat links are close enough that releasing a bucket of sand into the right orbit can take out an entire slew of them?

You could probably time an ASAT strike with enough precision to take out a big chunk of starlinks with the ensuing debris. Obviously, good luck getting anything else through to space after that...
