That Safran engine BTW is a grade A turd. (Like most French engines)"French aerospace firm Safran SA —which produces the jet’s engines, landing gear and engine covers—said it would stop all activities in Russia because of Western sanctions."
Safran makes half the engine. And Russia has the PD-8 engine in the test stand right now which replaces that with Russian components.
Just like Russian officials said it might impact production for 2 or maybe 3 years. And yes. I am pretty sure Russia can't manufacture an engine cover.
Certification of the PD-8 engine will be accelerated
The Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation hosted a meeting on the current situation in the civil aircraft industry. The main topic of discussion was the issues of import substitution of components. This is stated in the press service of the department.
We are talking about the most complete replacement of all systems and components of the SSJ100 aircraft, as well as an increase in the number of aircraft produced in the imported version of the SSJ-New. The event was attended by the heads of the main integrated structures of the aviation industry.
"The existing production facilities allow increasing the production of Superjet 100 aircraft to 40 units per year. This is the level to which we will strive to bring the production of the imported version in the coming years," the Ministry of Industry and Trade said in a statement.
The most important condition for the implementation of these plans in the current conditions should be the replacement of the Franco-Russian SaM146 engine with the Russian PD-8. The head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Denis Manturov, set the task of ensuring the certification of this engine in a shorter period than previously planned - in the next 12-14 months.
Previously, PD-8 certification was planned to be completed by 2024. In 2022, it is planned to assemble components for an experimental batch of engines. The start of testing of the PD-8 demonstrator with the nodes installed on it is scheduled for March. The creation and certification of SSJ-New was planned to be completed before the end of 2024. This year, 18 Superjet 100 aircraft are to be built at the aircraft plant in Komsomolsk-on-Amur.
From the green screen performances, I think it's clear that Zelensky is no longer in Kiev, perhaps not in Ukraine. If he still is in Kiev, the only explanation for the third-rate special effects is that he's too afraid to stick his head out of his hidey-hole for ten minutes because that would be enough for the Russians to get him.So here's what I think will happen. Two things are possible: either Ukraine's military collapses, or the regime collapses.
In Iraq it was the military that collapsed, the remained intact right to the end once NATO entered Baghdad. In the Taliban conquest of Afghanistan it was the regime that collapsed even though the Taliban were happy to wait outside Kabul and let the Americans leave in their own time. They were forced to enter Kabul to restore order.
It's hard to say which will happen first as Ukraine is heavily using propaganda to paint a rosy picture for both. This is amplified by the fact western media is fully endorsing it, creating their own propaganda and opposing takes are being silenced. This happened in Afghanistan a bit, but nothing like what we're seeing today.
Leave aside the state of the Ukrainian military, and look at at the civilian side. It takes a lot of moving parts to keep a country running, and Ukraine in the state it is has had a lot removed. How are they bringing in food, fuel and other essentials? Rail, sea and air are completely severed, Russia does seem to have left the roads to Poland open for now. Even though a lot of Ukrainians have left the country, there are still 30+ million there. That's a lot of mouths to feed and keep content. What happens if people find out the leaders have escaped, or some other rumour is spread? People may turn on the government and it could get very ugly.
There does seem to be a significant deterioration in civil control over the past few days, starting from when Zelensky weirdly missed a meeting. The same day there was an announcement for a 36 hour curfew in Kiev, that's a lot even for a city at war. He's also now called for the banning of all parties except for his own and the nazis, and arrests of journalists. Again, that's something you do if things are bad domestically and you need to restore order. There's been a big uptick in videos of street justice being meted out.
To me it does look like Kiev is days away from collapsing.
I more or less concur with your other points, but I would have to disagree with this one.
MT-LB is used by front line units mostly when the terrain demands it. As MT-LB ridiculous good off road capability that no BMP can match.
So its an APC in its normal use case then?
