The Chinese account of the two-hour phone call reveals that Beijing considers such a dangerous escalation with its unpredictable ally not to be worth the guaranteed international fallout, according to several former officials and analysts.

“With these statements by Xi, and the certainty that the Chinese indeed want a cease-fire as soon as possible, the Chinese cannot now turn around and be seen shipping weapons to Russia,” Susan Thornton, a career diplomat with deep experience in Russia and China, and the former assistant secretary of state for East Asian and Pacific affairs for the Trump administration, tells U.S. News.

Anyone who's read the transcript knows that was not an accurate assessment of the conversation. Now we know why Putin calls them "an empire of lies".

Putin caused all this trouble by not ensuring that his military was actually capable of accomplishing the objectives set in Ukraine. Nothing about this operation suggests coherence or cohesion, unless the only true objective was securing water for Crimea. I guess it’s too much trouble for him to actually oversee the only real source of power that he has. Or, maybe, all he really cares about is his nukes?

You may also want to tell millions of European workers because China is the biggest no questions ask, market for European goods ranging from Louis Vuitton to Mercedes Benz. For Europe to cut off its economic connection to China you might as well someone to cut off a major artery to the brain.

While the logic of economic mutual deterrence is clear to us, I suspect we've reached a point where rational calculations no longer matter. We've seen European leaders maniacally unleash a wave of sanctions on Russia driven by a combination of their incompetence and inability to comprehend consequences, ideological zealotry, and the baying of the social media mobs.

Worse, imposing these sanctions have given them a sense of unity and purpose which contrasts starkly against their usual infighting and political decay. They'll now go looking for that emotional rush like a junkie looking for his next fix.

Anyway, i think it does makes sense that Eastern European NATO member states are willing to send their troops to Ukraine in hopes of stopping Russia, they have Geopolitical and Historical background reasoning for why they don't want to border with Russia or Russia client state and trying every options they currently have in hoping to stop Russian incursion

I disagree in this regard. The Mig 29 and S300 fiascos demonstrate that the smaller nations want America to spearhead any missions that are designed to openly support Ukraine. As a matter of fact, I theorize that Poland's peacekeeping mission proposal is actually designed to force America into the spotlight and prevent America from "convincing" them to support Ukraine behind closed doors.
