Russia has asked China for military equipment since the start of the invasion
Our hard work on advertising Chinese drones has worked.

We should expand our work to include advertising Chinese EW systems, modern communication tools, PGM, rifles, personal protection equipment etc.

There might be purchases of Chinese equipment but it won't be weapons.
Russia would only need Chinese weapons in case of full on conflict with NATO
They most probably want high-end stuff. I doubt they are lacking Soviet-era equipment

Might be an opportunity for China to offload its Russian kit back to the manufacturer, if it didn't mind the sanctions that would follow? Su30 & 35, Kilos, Mil-17s. Not really required now that China can manufacture superior products of its own.

A theory on what the Russians may have asked from China

"Russia is asking China for “military equipment and aid” according to @washingtonpost
@Dimi from @FinancialTimes reports that there are “some indications that China may be preparing to help”

Could be munitions like Kalibr cruise missiles, Grad/Smerch rockets and artillery shells"

Nay. China already stated at the start of Russian invasion that China was not going to send arms. Let Russians ask their buddies in India and Vietnam.

Hah. Russia has so much leftover kit from Soviet times. They do not need Chinese weapons.

If Russia needs military help, it is most probably in the area associated with major post-Soviet developemet, such as Micro-electronics for signal interception equipment for frequency agile signals, portable integrated mortar locating radar, as well as possibly processors behind jamming equipment.

Another possibility is smart munition.

However, I think the story is propaganda that seeks to enhance the impression of Russian desperation and blacken china’s name to prevent China from becomingr acceptable to the EU as mediator.
