Also you notice the change in the charging handle. Training rifles, maybe so, but I have seen these new rifles in action before on CCTV7. My question is for the PLA is it really neccessary for them to have training rifles and real rifles, since they have such a large ground force,

Then Why leave it black? Dummy rifles are a least here in the US done in colors like red and blue too keep it from being confused for the "Real deal"
I think this is a Special Ops Modification At least in sights

It is dummy rubber rifle. The reason it is black is because they are not US, and they don't like red or blue. (I am seriouse.)

From what I've seen from the QBZ-95G keeps the charging handle and carry handle but adds in picatinny rails in a lame and awkward way.

That is really a strange way of adding a picatinny rails. And all those components in the front... it is simply adding massive weight to the front of the weapon, easily off-balancing the entire rifle.

Plus with the rail and the carrying handle so close to each other (in between the targeting sight and the carrying handle), it would be difficult to slot any component on.

I am beginning to imagine that the rifle was designed first without the picatinny rails in mind, and along the way, some top bass management suddenly wanted the rifle to be more 'modern' and so they simply add on the rail as an accessories to the rifle on the first location that they could find.

My guess is that the rails are for export, CAPF, or specops. Regulars won't get them, so the disadvantages will just be taken in stride.

Its more like an accessories option to the gun, I don't see how private company demonstrating attachments to existing rifle has anything to do with the top brass management. The rifle already has a rail but not picatinny rails, it has the quick detachable ones. Picatinny rails can in many cases be added on later, you don't need to design a rifle revolving around picatinny rails right from the get go. They can finish the whole rifle and then add them on simply.

Seriously doubt the next 95 variant is just plain 95 with picatinny rails on it. That image seems to be basically a demonstration of private firms accessories package for the Type 95 rifle, showing it to the PLA for possible orders. Those training rifles I've seen the actual version being fired by the grunts in CCTV, no much comment, or close up on them though. Only thing noticeable from quick footage and pictures are:
1) removable or removed handle
2) different rear sights
3) changed charging handle :

I don't know if you guys watch Stargate Universe but the bad guys called the Lucian Alliance are armed with Type 97s. It's the last episode of the season for people that can watch it. In Stargate Atlantis they had one Type 97. This one an army has them.

^ Oooh yes I noticed that too - I suppose type 97 looks "sci fi" enough for sci fi shows. In Doctor Who they had soldiers armed with modified P90's - I think bullpup guns probably look cooler than normal ones :p

Yeah I saw that episode to. I don't the 97 is being used because it looks sci-fiie it might be because it doesn't look like it was made in America or Russia. Hell in SG1 there was an episode they went to a world we're the military was armed with a mixture of AK-47's and M1 Garands which was pretty obvious. I applaud them for not issue well known weapons to people that are not supposed to be from Earth.

It's kind of funny a cable tv franchise made the effort to arm it's people with Type 97's while the movie studio that's remaking Red Dawn with PLA just hand out Russian AK-74's.
