I think TPHuang is trying to say the proportions of the sub vs. the Xia is not the same. Even more, the proportions of the two Xia pics are not also the same, suggesting Pic 2 and 3 are not exactly the same sub, which goes to further suggest they may not just be one Xia class out there.

Actually it does strike me that the 094 has a smaller conning tower than the Xia class. The tower does not go all the way to the hump like the Xia does. The hump is also more pronounced than the Xia's.

Other than that, it looks much like an evolved Xia class, kind of disappointing for those expecting something a bit more rad for all the myth building around the project. But this is something to expected, a more conservative design if you look at it.

Well the sub in the new pic looks larger than the Xia. Many minor differences are noticable and not just cut and paste. If it was a PS job, someone spent a lot of time and energy on the details. If it's not PSed but still fake, then it has to be good computer generated image.

Well, pic 2 & 3 are both taken from different angles. And if you mentally correct for the angular difference, they are indeed the same dimensions. I think it's pretty safe to say that there is only 1 Xia in existence.

As for the 094 photo, it's hard to tell. I'm not sure if it's a photoshop or not. Where did the picture come from originally?

I am not really trying to say anything. I'm just providing someone else's analysis of this current picture with two known pictures of 092 and letting you guys judge. Generally, PLA fans do not want to admit that this is 094, because it seems this has not changed as much from 092 as they wanted, but the outer appearance really hasn't changed that much.

The major flaw to me seems to be the PRC flag on the purported 94. It looks like it's flapping in the wind. But look at the water... it is still!

If someone bothers to dig up an old thread about the latest Weyer's book and mosre specificly it's section of PLAN. In the book there is a drawing of the 094 concept and it looks exactly as the above pic...

Now it's rather easy to quess that the 094 will be most likely a Xian class with bigger missile comparament so this can still be PS....but...well I'm not going to say anything, I've been saying several times that some pics are just photoshopped BS and getting that right back at my face when they proove out to be true...so I will quietly wait further evidences...

I think those pictures are improved 092(XIA).
you won't see the picture of 094 now,and even in the quite a long time it never show up.

Mao what do you mean by improved type 092? Do you suggest that PLAN rebuilt XIA No.1 extensively (e.g. enlarging the hull, new SLBM JL-2, new electronics, sonar) or that XIA No.1 was scrapped in the end of 90´s and replaced by an improved new XIA No.2?

Interestingly PLAN enlarged type 091 after No.2 built and the three subsequent improved units No.3-5 (1984-1991) were also quite different in detail appearance. Probably PLAN acted similarly in this case since they had to wait for the delayed new JL-2 anyway.

Are there more suspicions around which would suggest that more than only one type 092 has existed or may be exists ?? :coffee:

the answer is"no".both 091 and 092 are improved.
094 is totally a new type of sub.
look at those pictures,the sub has the call"turtle back" on the top.that is russian style ballistic missile nuclear sub in 70's and 80's century.the U.S Ohio class sub has no"turtle back"on it.
you may think about 094 type sub should be which style,russian or American?
all of the sub is rather like painted black now,so the new version of 092 is look like a little deffint than the before.
