Type 076 LHD/LHA discussion

So let's say the ship is launched early next year. Almost 2 years for fitting out + sea trials before being commissioned, and then another 2+ years before it's combat ready.

The 076 is inherently smaller and less complex than Fujian, meaning that the duration for the LHD to enter service would be shorter than that of Fujian.

There's also the fact that some of the newer systems on the 076 LHD, such as the EM catapults and arresting gears will would've already been tested onboard Fujian beforehand (during her previous and subsequent sea trials), so there's also another probable boost to 076 LHD's pier-side and sea trials.

It seems like the ship won't be ready for a conflict until near 2030

Viewed from another angle, this could (if not should) mean that the PLA CMC isn't in a hurry to fight a war to her east, contrary to what those China-hawk blobs in DC are eager to imply.

Otherwise, perhaps the PLAN believes that the 076 LHD isn't exactly a must-have in the short term, given the recent rumor/claim of two additional 075 LHDs are to be build at Hudong-Zhonghua and Huangpu-Wenchong.

Two new 075 LHDs would surprise me a bit. It would mean they don't view the 076 LHD as a direct replacement. At least in the medium term... Unless they are going to build a lot of 076 LHDs, both being in construction simultaneously means these vessels will serve in similar numbers together for 30+ years.

The 075s took about a year 8 months from launch to commission, so a bit less than 2 years for 076 is not unreasonable (one potential factor was that the 075s were launched during covid). If we assume 2 years for combat readiness, it's still looking like late 2028 to early 2029 for the 076.

Fujian actually also appears to reach initial combat readiness around this time... Assuming a commissioning date of Q1/Q2 2026, and 3-3.5 years for combat readiness (which is imo very fast)

Also interestingly, if we assume the two rumored 075s are built in 2025 and launched late 2025 or early 2026, they would also reach combat readiness around late 2028 or sometime during 2029.

twin island design also brings alot of problems and issues

the air flow between the island and the local hot spot turbulences created by the twin island design did cause the Royal Navy to retrain how they approach the Carrier operations

they are using F35B which also add a extra layer of complication and the cross winds forced pilot training to new levels

for rotary wing I wouldn't say PLAN will face those kind of completed issues but still twin island design shows the ambitious of the PLAN

I am sure PLAN had done wind flow studies with wind tunnel and they were aware of the air flow problems faced by other navies in operations of aircraft carrier/flat top landing ships since this is a publicly available knowledge.

Also the primary missions of type 076 would not required the ship to travel at fast speed unless they have to launch a flanker size aircraft loaded with munitions. Probably the ship would launch its helicopters and drones at stationery or 5 knot to 10 knot, and around 30km to 80km from the beach. It is after all, not an aircraft carrier.
