You should read this, it is just an inspection to see whether they'd be beneficial or not. This is done all the time and It doesn't mean that the Navy is going to procure them.
I think during the Eurofighter talks the British also offered us these since they're retiring and removing them from the service but such a procurement doesn't make any sense. First of all, it'd be a logistical nightmare, second of all, they'd have to be modernised/outfitted with new sensors and weapons which would not only be costly but it'd also take 2 to 3 years. The Navy also has/had no experience of operating any British ships whatsoever.
There actually was a study on the same class of ships with a better weaponry back in the 90s but the Navy rightly so decided not to pursue it.
It'd have made sense to buy them 10 years ago as a stop-gap measure but not today.
Neither I nor any experienced watcher/analyst expects the procurement to happen.
You expect a country that can design and build destroyers nationally on its own to just stop and put all the efforts of the last 40 years to the side and import ships from abroad?!
This is what's actually going to happen:
Since there's a new requirement for OPVs because of all those new offshore platforms and gas discoveries; the Navy has started to build the Hisar class OPVs back in 2020 and they're nearing launch. Currently two of them are being built but there's an option to build 10 more. They are classified as OPVs but are really just Ada class corvettes with less weapons and sensors. They're however conceptually designed to accomodate heavier weapons in a short amount of time if the need arises. This outfitting can even be done at a forward operating base.
Here's the additionally armed version that was displayed at a fair:
1x 76mm naval gun
1x ASELSAN GÖKDENİZ CIWS
8x HİSAR-RF
8x Atmaca AShM
4x ROKETSAN UMTAS anti-tank missile
2x(with 6 ASW Rockets) ROKETSAN SDW (Submarine Defense Warfare) Rocket Launch System
2x ASELSAN STAMP
YAKAMOS Hull Mounted Sonar System
ASELSAN MAR-D AESA Search Radar
Torpedo Countermeasure System
LPI Radar
Fire Control Radar
Electro-Optical Sensor
So in short, procuring any Duke class ships would be absolutely nonsensical and the TN is instead going to opt for using the +10 option on the Hisar class OPVs/Light Frigates.
So anyway I hope that all of what I wrote above can finally put an end to this absurd discussion.
