If China is not fully, completely, 100% ready for this hard decoupling then it really only has itself to blame. There's been PLENTY of warning since 2018.
When China said it was ready for any kind of war, and then retaliated immediately against Trump tariffs, that should tell you all you need to know

if Trump thinks he can scare the likes of the CPC with all of its experience against, the worse threats like Soviet nuclear atteack,US nuclear threats, brutal genocidal Japan war, still unfinished Chinese civil war, trade sanctions galore and about 10-12 years ago a "mysterious"outbreak of African swine virus to destroy Chinese food supplies.
When Trump was living the good life and eating McDonald's, and living in golden houses or whatever, Xi was sent to the farms to live with the peasants in a cave.

Trump and America really don't know how screwed they are. Xi had long ago decided that he wouldn't allow another Trade War 1 situation. That he decided to make a stand now, American strategists should be terrified if they had more than a single brain cell

Considering how people are getting tossed out for certain speech about a certain country... wumaos in the us without us citizenship should stay politically silent and maybe setup even use private/public vpn nodes to view certain content.
Yeah you will just be sent away, there's a pretty exact template for that already in how Iran dealt with Israeli nationals in their country. The idea US would ever try to imprison you as a group, a normal PRC civilian, is insane. It would mean throwing ethics out of the window, and China has every escalatory dominance here. As some man once said "Ethics is holding back the progress of science", so you don't throw out ethics when fighting China, or your guys will end up with a really horrifying fate.

On the other hand tho obviously if you commit a clear crime they can try to mess with you over it. The Otto Warmbier clause applies here, you're dumb if you go to an adversary nation only to commit an obvious crime and then act shocked when you get treated worse than a local for it. China will retaliate and get you free if US has no fair cases against you: don't expect China to do anything if US catches you smuggling meth or robbing someone.

I truly believe Trump 2.0 is FUBAR now.

Remember the pandemic, and how they handled it?

They did not know what they were doing.

That seems like the same case here.

The Americans will have a mid-election, next year.

The stock market better stabilize, and inflation must be held in check.

The market will probably come back, but inflation, Sleepy Joe never solved it, they lying about it all the time. If Trump 2.0 does the same, he is finished.

How are they going to prevent inflation when they increased the price via their tariff which is a tax?

The only thing I can think of, is the wild idea is to let the inflation grow, but cut income tax to zero, leaving people with more disposable income because they do not pay income taxes anymore.

The only risk there, could be hyperinflation. LOL!

But you know what, Trump is the kind of guy who would risk hyperinflation!

What a guy!

Trump! Forever!

:D
He's not worried about the midterms. Trump's supporters are so stupid, the stock market could be permanently closed, USD no longer accepted in all/nearly all major economies around the world, American economy in freefall recession and they'd still support him if he Tweeted, "We won bigly! Vietnam just caved and asked for tariff relief!"
There's literally zero indication for that. Zero. Quite the opposite. Every single sign points towards more isolationism than expansion. You don't prepare for war against one nation by tariffing the entire world. And what desperation? The wound is self-inflicted.
Everything you said is an indication of desperation because losing your mind, cursing out all your henchmen, lashing out at your surroundings and ultimately self-inflicting wounds is terminal stage delirium. Trump isn't Rodtang; punching himself in the face is not a power move.

China expecting the vassals to not cave was always delusional. Trump is smart in that sense - he knows most of the world will bend the knee because they're afraid of change.

I'll go one step further - the EU will cease all trade with China before they cease all trade with the US. They are that compromised as a society (or you can think of it as a full-on white supremacy band wagon), and any Chinese illusions about the EU will be shattered, push comes to shove.

The real question to me is whether China is now willing to do the right thing, which is to increase internal consumption & fix its demographics, because in the short term, I predict there will be some hard times coming as most of the world will bend the knee to the US and try to thread the needle on China (e.g. many of them may very well cut trade with China to appease the US).

I've always been of the opinion that, at the end of the day, China must be prepared to go at it alone. Work with partners where you can, but in a zero sum world, you can't rely on anyone, especially not countries historically tied to the West.

There's only two real paths to long-term historical success: 1) demographics victory and 2) cultural / ideological victory. The US's behavior is opening up the opportunity for (2) since it is increasingly seen as a bully, but China should still invest in (1) just in case.

The rest of the world is hoping after China strikes back, Trump will rethink his tariffs on them. Why are Trump and the Republicans so angry at China for retaliating when it serves their goal of decoupling with China? That tells you that wasn't expected. As usual they think everyone needs the US more than the US needs of them. Like the clues say it's a negotiating ploy. Trump wants more than just removal of tariffs on US products. Like with Vietnam... zero per cent tariffs on US products is not enough. Yes like it's been said, the ultimate goal is redrawing global trade. Like I've been saying, this is where you'll see which countries will jump onto a sinking ship and with those countries, China shouldn't think of kumbaya in helping them until they're desperate begging China to giving them a lifeline. Not only do they need China to buy from them, they need less expensive goods which they won't be getting from any manufacturing done in the US. And by their logic says, the whole point of US tariffs is bringing back manufacturing to the US. It goes against the stream if the US makes it easier to export to the US by backtracking on tariffs. You think Trump is a genius with a plan? He's so chaotic contradicting himself because he didn't think about it thoroughly. And you can see it with the Republicans defending him. All they do is repeat the talking points given supporting Trump. Yeah they want tariffs on China but not as much with traditional allies but they have to blindly support their leader or they get fired.

Pathetic.

The Europeans are terminally servile.
Not really. EU is offering a 0% reciprocal tariff on autos and industrial goods.

This means the removal of a heap of US tariffs, like the death of the chicken tax for the US, for starters. Trump would NEVER go for it, which is partly the reason that the EU offered this in the first place. They just want to show the markets they are the trustworthy/adult party instead of the US.

Also, they proposed counter tariffs, if Trump continues.

Always read the print before commenting on a whim.
