Get out of here with this holier than thou bullshit nonsense. This website is filled with speculation on events and isn't some great brain trust regarding international relations.

Yeah, we elect morons yet somehow managed build one of the wealthiest and most prosperous countries on the planet and we've managed to build and maintain that wealth for generations?

Oh, and American and Canadian relationships were built over shared core values and mutual defense along with being sustained for in a peaceful manner for decades. On top of that, the relationship has survived through many geopolitical changes and has proven itself to be durable.

Acting like it was forgone conclusion that it would end up in this manner is totally false or that the actions of Trump were somehow predicted by past American administrators despite the fact that everything he does is almost entirely unprecedented.
Gotta say man, this press conference was uhh... painful to watch. To put it mildly.

Zelensky was clearly meant to 'go' from the beginning as a part of the package of suing for peace that Trump has to bring to Putin.

This just gave Trump and Trumptards and domestic Ukraine alternative politicians a perfect excuse to purge Zelensky next, and some public toughness display points for Trumptards right away. That's why they brought him out so publicly to shame him pointlessly.

However, for Zelesnky it would be the same have he talked back or not. But, it's not like he knows anything now in his coke head. For him, the best deal he could possibly make is personal freedom for him and his wife, with some part of stolen money, for saving his life.

Disagree entirely. If you think this is how you are supposed to hold a meeting between world leaders you're an idiot. Trump acts like high school bully when attempting to conduct diplomacy. Same way he acts when he has been talking to Canada lately.

I mean really, what exactly is Zelensky supposed to say in this situation? Ideally when another man speaks to you like that you reach over a smack them in the face, but this is a huge diplomatic meeting which to me seems to be set-up like an ambush to make Trump look tough.

Nations that have real power don't act like that in public or even behind closed doors because it goes without saying what their capabilities are.
Anyone with a modicum of how things work knows you don't contradict each other publically. Trump was being very polite, and Zelensky didnt even seem to have much of a problem with what Trump was saying, either that or he was too cowardly to stand up to him.

It was one of Vance's answers to a question that Zelensky tried to "own" him on. Who does that at a press conference?

Trump saw through the charade and ripped Zelensky a new one. So much for the groomed image of Zelensky being Churchill. No he's a failed comedian who is totally out his league at the world stage.

There's only so much humiliation a man can take before they snap.

Regardless of what flowery words they wanna use, the mineral deal was a humiliation. Having Zelensky come in to praise how good the deal is for Ukraine is also, public humiliation.

I'm glad Zelensky stood up for himself.

In my opinion, any peace deal that would come out of this wouldn't last. Not when it's borne out of national humiliation and forced on Ukraine. The only way for a long-lasting peace is for both Ukrainians and Russians to get tired of fighting and coming to an agreement on terms that they both can swallow.

There's nothing to stand up to, Ukraine died in 2014 when NATO invaded and occupied it.
The only way for Ukraine to regain dignity is to return to what it always has been: a Russian oblast.

Calm down your tone ... this was just a staged trap to offend and ambush him with lies, more lies and stupid provocations! One must not like Zelensky nor his policy, but that was a well prepared drama.

And I can only say it again, the USA have have offended many allies and partners: Anyone who doesn't come, bend the knee and kiss the ring will be ironed out! As if that's strength? ... but as I said, from the point of view that he is a Russian puppet, it all makes sense.

I have long hypothesized that everything Trump is doing is now (Russia, Ukraine, Canada, and Mexico) is to prepare for a grand showdown with China. He is deliberately being ambiguous about China until he could force his allies in line, whilst pulling Russia out of China’s orbit. Of course, this is what he and his MAGA team idealises. It is unclear how successful he would be in the end.
