Common sense right, for example, in some areas you know more than me but in some other area like semiconductor, I know more than you. It's not rocket science, Get it?
No, this only works when you are comparing 2 people, not one person versus a national advisory team. Of course if you worked in the semiconductor industry, you probably know more about semiconductors than Xi Jingping or Li Keqiang, but that means nothing. Xi/Li will snap their fingers or make 1 phone call and summon the nation's top experts to answer give their opinions and that will amount to much much more than your personal knowledge could surmise. And just like that, you don't know more than them anymore.

You need to understand that when people with access to that level of information make decisions, they have more inside information than you could ever personally compensate for with whatever personal knowledge of the field that you may think you have. You may think they're wrong, but they made that decision based on other classified information that you do not have. It's actually harder than rocket science in some ways because people who can build rockets don't even have all the classified information that are provided to national advisory teams.

Additionally, you are overlooking the fact that those who work in semiconductors (or other tech) very rarely vote for Trump so targeting them will do no damage to Trump's support. Farmers support(ed) Trump so that is where to fracture his base.

Lastly, you are under the assumption that China actually wishes to stop the trade war rather than bait the US into dealing more and more damage to itself. None of us know which is true. You (and we all) have so little knowledge of the true overall picture (not simply what the public is allowed to see through media) and inner plans of ZhongNanHai that your extremely narrow knowledge on semiconductors does not even qualify as a usable asset.

1)semiconductor is root cause of this trade war.
2) the famous case shanghai professor came back from US faking Motorola DSP as self developed and swindled huge amount money shows China lacks real experts. No one found out till an annoymous letter pointed out. So much for your snap of fingers, all the experts would come.
3)China short of 400,000 qualified semiconductor professionals for development of the industries.

You making way too much assumptions for your own good.

Like the olde saying goes, "What comes around goes around" ;
China accuses U.S. of 'trade bullyism' as both sides impose fresh tariffs

BEIJING (Reuters) - The United States and China imposed fresh tariffs on each other’s goods on Monday, as the world’s biggest economies showed no signs of backing down from an increasing bitter trade dispute that is expected to knock global economic growth.
Soon after the fresh duties went into effect, China accused the United States of engaging in “trade bullyism” and said it was intimidating other countries to submit to its will through measures such as tariffs, the official Xinhua news agency said.

But Beijing also said it was willing to restart trade negotiations with the United States if the talks are “based on mutual respect and equality,” Xinhua said, citing a white paper on the trade dispute published by China’s State Council.

U.S. tariffs on $200 billion worth of Chinese goods and retaliatory tariffs by Beijing on $60 billion worth of U.S. products took effect at midday in Asia, though the initial level of the duties was not as high as earlier feared. The two countries have already slapped tariffs on $50 billion worth of each other’s goods earlier this year........

I'm afraid Trump's main target is China. Others are just a show, either to prevent China from getting around or to tell the world that he's not against China.

If China doesn't give anything to Trump, he'll be going after allies again. Just like talk of an agreement with the EU was really agreeing to talk not a deal. The EU offered no tariffs on American cars and Trump said no tariffs is not enough.
