PORT EVERGLADES, Fla. (April 28, 2009) The U.S. Coast Guard medium-endurance cutter USCGC Tahoma (WMEC 908) is moored pier side with the Canadian auxiliary oil replenishment ship HMCS Preserver (AOR 510) for Fleet Week Port Everglades 2009. Other ships participating in Fleet Week are the Los Angeles-class attack submarine USS Toledo (SSN 769), the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Forrest Sherman (DDG 98) and the Whidbey Island-class amphibious dock landing ship USS Ashland (LSD 48). More than 1,000 Sailors, Marines and Coast Guardsmen are participating in a number of community outreach activities April 27 to May 2 as well as enjoying the hospitality and tourism of South Florida. MAYPORT BEACH, Fla. (April 25, 2009) Amphibious assault vehicles assigned to the 4th Platoon, Charlie Company, 2d Assault Amphibian Battalion, approach Mayport Beach to disembark Marines and equipment during a Unitas Gold amphibious assault exercise. Maritime forces from Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Germany, Mexico, Peru, U.S., and Uruguay are participating in UNITAS Gold, which provides the opportunity to conduct and integrate joint and combined land, maritime, coast guard and air operations in a realistic training environment. PACIFIC OCEAN (April 30, 2009) Aviation Electrician's Mate 2nd Class Rob Escue, assigned to the "Warlords" of Light Helicopter Antisubmarine squadron (HSL) 51, performs preventive maintenance on an SH-60F helicopter aboard the amphibious command ship USS Blue Ridge (LCC 19) as the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force destroyer JDS Kurama (DDH 144), the Arleigh-Burke class guided-missile destroyer USS Fitzgerald (DDG 62), and the Indian Navy guided-missile destroyer INS Ranvir (DDG 54) follow in her course during Exercise Malabar 2009. FAIRFAX, Va. (April 26, 2009) Aviation Ordnanceman Michael Sykes, a member of the U.S. Navy Ceremonial Guard, performs blindfolded for part of the Guard's presentation during the Joint Service Drill Team Competition at the George Mason University Field House.
