The World's 4th, 4.5 & 5th Generation Fighters

It definitely doesn't look as stealthy as the Raptor or Lightning II. Whether they change this or that talk of plasma stealth is actually real it certainly isn't

I think it looks more like a stealthed-up Su-27 than the F-22. Here are pictures for comparison:

If PAK Fa didn't look all stealthy compared to F22 like people said in this thread, then I think the JXX jet would look the worst out of the bunch. just my two cent.

Like most analysts claimed that it is hard for any country in world to have a quantum leap technology to surpass that of U.S. We all know that China is using alot of foreign assistance and technology to build their 5th generation plane. Until they make their first maiden flight, I still don't believe China has the capability to develop a near 5th gen plane. seeing is believing.

PAK-FA definately looks stealthy to me. It has all the hallmarks of LO design, with the possible exception of the engine exhausts - so a compromise on rear-aspect stealth for agility maybe. Whether it is as stealthy as F-22/F-35 is going to be a hot topic, but definately a stealth design.

You forget China got trillion dollar paycheck and pouring billions of money into R&D and producing large pool of scientist.

In this capitalism world, without money. U can do nothing. That is how Russian Technology edge slowly edge off.

In Soviet Union times or standard, PAF KA shall have commission/induct into service by last year....

What is up with these massive intakes?

Where do the weapons go? There is a little hatch in the middle fuselage. Doesn't look like it holds much.

The front part of it looks like a flanker and the back part of it looks like a raptor.

Of course it doesn't have the black coat that makes F-22 look really stealthy.

I know 75% of registered members here are Chinese, so in that case posters are speaking with a pro-china mentality.

"pouring billions of money into R&D and producing large pool of scientist"
I still haven't see proof of maturity yet. If you really want to surpass the U.S, it takes 75 years to do so.

People, in here, are comparing the stealthiness of PAK FA to F22, not PAK FA to JXX. So I don't know why you are wondered off to something else.

You were the one to start with the J-XX comparisons along with a good dose of prejudice on Chinese capabilities. :coffee:

The cockpit and engines look like the Flanker but the wing configuration seems to be all new. I think one of the reasons it looks a bit "rough" is because it doesn't have its slick stealthy paint job yet.

Just so you know. Just because a person is Chinese, it doesn't mean he/she is pro-China. My parents are Chinese and they are the biggest China critics I've ever met. Because how they were treated in the 60's, 70s' and 80s', many Chinese, especially scientists, bear DEEP resentment and suspicion toward CCP.

BTW,"seeing is believing" is such a misleading phrase. Before today, no one had seen any photos of PAK FA. Did that mean PAK FE didn't exist before today and magically "popped out" today. This phrase is particularly misleading when talking about military since every nation is trying their best to HIDE their secrets. Absence of evidence is NOT the evidence of absence.

Actually I think you were the one to first compare the J-XX with the PAK FA by saying "it'd look the worst out of the bunch" or something - go check the New Generation Fighter thread if you want some info or convincing that China can build a 4th/5th generation aircraft...

And what's up with the whole 75 years thing? Are you talking about surpassing the US in military technology or what? I'd ask you to clarify, but I'm sure that comparison threads are discouraged here.

------------------------

I think the only reason people are saying it doesn't look stealthy is cause of the paint job - they just need to put a grey one on and it'd be LO as, the air intakes don't seem to be that much bigger than the F-22 btw.
The general design looks absolutely stealthy, save for the engine nozzles and maybe the IRST. the above view that vlad plasimius posted showed a lot of edge alignment, at least - which is a good indication the russian's were aware of the importance of details to overall stealth so I'm not sure what's up with the "it's not as stealthy as the F-35 or F-22" talk. It's definitely better than the F-35; do you see any major round bits in the fuselage like the underbelly of the Lightning II?

------------------------

It'd be a bit premature to say the cockpit and engines are the same as the flanker - because the engines are supposed to be the Al-41's or something; which look very similar to the Al-31. The cockpit seems more advanced; the HUD definitely seems more... "advanced".

And the weapons bay will prolly be just that one between the engines/airintakes - it won't be too wide, but it'll be DEEP. Meaning they can put in larger bombs and missiles, as well as being able to stack smaller missiles on top of each other.

Also, does anyone have an estimate on how big this T-50 is compared to other planes?

Guys, this is the prototype's test-flight. It's not the production model.

Congrats to the Sukhoi Aviation Company.

What I'm impressed with the most: being able to keep this aircraft under wraps from the press until its official public test flight! We had absolutely no photos whatsoever of this plane until they officially released the video to the press!
