Already in February Zelenskyy orders the release of all prisoners with combat experience.

Ukraine's President has order all inmates in the country with combat experience to be released from prison.

While it might be concerning to think that prisoners would be let out into the public, the Ukrainian leader said it was necessary to defeat Russian forces.
"Ukrainians with real combat experience will be released from custody and will be able to compensate for their guilt in the hottest spots," Zelensky said.

"All sanctions against some individuals who participated in the Anti-Terrorist Operation will be lifted. The key thing now is defense."

On July 11th, the former commander of the Tornado battalion Ruslan Onishchenko was released by presidential decree after seven years in prison out of eleven. This was reported by the Ukrainian media with reference to ex-deputy of the Verkhovna Rada Igor Mosiychuk.

The Obolon Court in Kiev sentenced Onishchenko to 11 years in prison for torturing civilians and prisoners of war in 2017. He was also convicted three times for extrajudicial executions, rape, robbery, possession of weapons and other crimes.

This year, eight Tornado militants, including Onishchenko, were detained in June 2015. They were charged with kidnapping and torturing residents of Lisichansk in the LPR, as well as gang rape of a man and looting. The investigation of their case, in which there were 80 volumes, 111 witnesses and 13 victims, lasted for almost two years, and on April 7, 2017, the Obolon District Court of Kiev sentenced the former soldiers of the National Battalion. Nazis were sentenced to 74 years in prison for all.

Really goes to show the desperation of war and the means countries will go to, to endure.

If the Russians do something bad, they counter it with something bad done by the Ukrainians, is that the logic?

But the comparisons are not even similar, Ukraine is in a state of total war... While Russia has a "special military operation" without any relevance... I don't see how the government allows convicted murderers to be released, to act as paid mercenaries, for a company of mercenaries that are not even an official part of the Russian armed forces... Total despair!!!

Yeah, and that led to war crimes against Russian prisoners/Russian sympathizers.

It also coincided with a spike in western media whitewashing several of the neo-nazi units within the AFU so its not like you need to be a convict to become a war criminal.

Picture of a destroyed ukranian T-64BV obr 2017 ealier in the war. It has at least two APFSDS penetrations on the frontal arc

Ukraine is not in a state of total war as no war is declared. It only has an anti terrorism operation ATO. In fact, no war has ever been declared since WW2.

Now that you mention it, I don't remember a declarion of war from Ukraine. The Ukrainians were getting ready to go full force into Eastern Ukraine as part of their "ATO" when the invasion happened.

That dam got hit pretty hard and I doubt Ukraine will be able to repair it anytime soon. The city is also getting flooded.
Could it be the start of an offensive in the south and flooding could messup Ukraine reinforcement to Mykolaiv oblast ? We need to see bridge blowing up on the Dnieper big time now if they are going for it to block return of Ukrainian troops from the east..
