how do you know this not edited.. they were not using these Mi-24 and Mi-28 in begining of conflict. you will not see even in MOD videos on the field.

What the Ukrainans wants from that Island ?
For Russia the reason was to prevent it to be claimed by Romania by few sources.
Ukraine wants to sell the island to the USA ? Or what ?
Actually, it should be a genius plan.
Say they sell the Snak island to the USA, from that point of time the Americans can enter the sea with warships, by establishing a military base on the island.
That would makes the USA a Black Sea nation by the Montreux Convention .
That would explain why they spending the last planes to acpture the island.

Ukraine established an A2/AD zone against Russians with a few MALE drones and a battery of Neptunes, a Kh-35 knockoff. You would normally establish CAP in the zone and send marines or airborne troops to conquer the island. Then you would bring area air defenses to secure the place. So to sum up
- Russians cannot bring ships into the region because they don't trust their defense systems and naval air defenses are of low range.
- Russian air force for some reason can not hold CAP over the region.
- Russian ISR is bad. Ukrainian planes and TB-2s can not be found for mysterious reasons. Russia can't observe Odessa effectively either.
- They keep sending special forces boats and short range air defense systems which are defenseless against the TB-2.
This has nothing to do with hardware or even tactics. Russia has the same hardware as Ukraine but more numerous and more modernized. This has to do with personnel quality. For example why Moskva's air defenses were off in the first place? And more importantly why they are not mobilizing?

We have very limited information about the current state of affairs there ,and we have no clue why it is so important in first place.
Well from what I am reading, the Russian side are saying that the footage is from a failed Ukrainian Airborn landing attempted yesterday

According to Russian sources Snake Island was evacuated after its air defences were disabled by Ukrainian drones. Then Ukrainians bombed empty compound to get nice picture and tried to land some troops using helicopters. Then VKS came in and destroyed 3 Mi-8 and corvette (Soviet era missile boat).
They claim this video is actually destruction of one of these Mi-8s. Explosion is way too big for MAM-L
