IFF are fully failable, as Russia has helpfully demonstrated, being the side that has way more AA turned on at any moment. For the past 2 years, Russian pilots have probably, similar to US pilots during the Gulf War, lived more in fear of RU army batteries than enemy fire.
The most suspicious thing is actually that Ukraine has never claimed a friendly fire incident until now.
maybe because their planes rarely take off so it's less likely for friendly fire to happen

Karlivka is gone, taken by Russian with barely a fight. Note the nearly intact church that Russians planted their flag on. Troops to the east of Vovcha river may have to start pulling out or risk encirclement in the future.
I can't be the only one noticing that the "items" Russians have been taking recently are less and less devastated.

Apparently he was killed by a patriot missile and he had trained for two full years. They don't say so publicly, but this moonfish character was probably a more important pilot than most. Perhaps a squadron leader of sorts. Hard to justify firing the main air force commander otherwise. The entire saga was just an epic fuckup from the UA side. Ze needs his scapegoat.
For one plane that they had admitted. And they had admitted it only due to leak of Moonfish death by Lutsk Mayor. Moonfish was well known to media squadron leader.
