The War in the Ukraine

They’re not gonna trap them. Any sort of defeat is going to look very anti-climactic.

Most likely, at some point Russians will finally consolidate enough forces to make an advance too costly for Ukraine. At that point Ukraine will likely start either trying to consolidate or slowly withdrawing.

I don’t think Ukraine will be able to dig in, but Ukrainians tend to be resilient. They’ve surprised me before.

Either way, this party won’t be going for a long time.
I have seem this many times every time they do an offensive, they go deep into enemy territory then they gas out after weeks of combat then in a pliers move the Russians cut them from behind and basically annihilate them. The Russian army is many times bigger than the Ukrainians even with all the help of West the Russian can open another front. I said before in 2022 Ukraine is not in a position of grind their little Western begged resources in offensives, they should put their resources in defending what territory still have.

I would like to point out, this Ukrainian offensive? This is exactly the reason why Russia couldn't allow Ukraine to enter NATO without contest. Had this been a full-blown NATO attack with hundreds of tanks and hundreds of thousands of soldiers instead of an attack by limited forces of a battered Ukraine, they could make headway deep into Russian territory in a matter of weeks. Politically, this would force Russia to "play ball" with whatever NATO did, "or else". The Ukrainians gave Putin the perfect opportunity to face his people and go "See? I told you so!"

Russia should mobilize. Full mobilization. But its hard to do that with an independent central bank with draconian rates. Hard to do that with a hardcore liberalized economy. It should mobilize to crush ukraine.

F-16 fighter jets spotted over Kherson Region in first such case — official

GENICHESK, August 8. /TASS/. F-16 fighter jets have been spotted over the Kakhovka District in the Kherson Region, district head Pavel Filipchuk said.

"Dear Kakhovka residents, fellow countrymen. Since yesterday, F-16 jets have been flying over our district. This is done only to sow panic, to suppress our faith in victory. It is important not to succumb to these sentiments and remain steadfast. Their lifespan is as long as that of a mosquito. They will all be shot down and destroyed," he said on Telegram.

The official also said that the F-16s will soon be featured as exhibits at a Moscow display of captured military equipment.

F-16 in Ukraine

On August 4, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky confirmed that Ukraine had taken the first delivery of F-16 fighter jets from Western allies. He did not specify how many aircraft were handed over and where they would be based.

Before that, the Economist reported that Ukraine had received 10 F-16 jets from Western countries, and it is planned to increase that number to 20 by the end of the year. According to the report, Ukraine can count on a total of 79 F-16 jets, which the West will continue to transfer incrementally throughout 2025.

Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that deliveries of new weapons, including F-16s, to Ukraine would not change the situation on the battlefield, but would lead to a prolongation of the situation. He also said the fighter jets, if Ukraine comes to operate them, will burn just like any other much-touted Western military equipment.
Russian state news agency TASS reported that Ukrainian F-16 fighter jets were spotted over areas still under Russian military occupation in Kherson, confirming that Ukrainians are using these fighters also in offensive missions and not just for missile defense.

Russia is winning so there isn't any point for full mobilization. And then there's the economy to consider. Look at what's happening to Israel.

Honestly a master stroke by Ukraine IF they can find defensive lines in Russia to hold and create a new front that is as large as the one they’re losing down south. Russians will throw everything they’ve got to restore Russian territory, which means higher casualties in grinding attrition war fare; all the while the Ukrainian break through exploited an obvious hole in the Russian defense hence the speed of movement.

If all the existing opportunities available to you seem bad, the best strategy is to create new opportunities nobody expected.
