The War in the Ukraine

Guessing the limitation is due to the Su-35's radar size and performance relative to the Zaslon and lower top speed for a launch?

Well, it's still a 45t bus with largest and most powerful fighter radar,

Not sure about this tho.

Current Zaslon AM has only about 12.5 KW peak power and 2.5 KW Average, vs Irbis 20KW peak and 4 KW Average. Also Irbis comes from much later generation of radar's. Unlike Zaslon which does not have receiver stage within its antenna, Irbis has it like Bars. Thus it allows low noise receiver 3.5 dB vs 5.5 dB for Zaslon.

Zaslon is unfortunately running out already of its upgrade potential at the moment. Given that the Zaslon-M Was never produced, MiG-31BM relies on Zaslon AM retaining the original 8B antenna but newer processing.

Kinematic wise tho i dont see why Su-35 can't make full use of R-37M. The weaknesses over MiG-31 is perhaps it lacks WSO, thus there could be workload issue for long CAP mission.

We just do not have that much information on what Zaslon AM actually is.
It is not like Russia will ever export the MiG-31BM either. So its specs are not public.

The MiG-31 platform is capable of higher speed and altitude so the missile would have better kinematics just because of that.
It can also carry way more R-37M missiles. Four in the MiG-31 instead of two in the Su-35.

The lack of WSO in the Su-35 is not that much of a big deal. Because the Su-35 has way more sophisticated avionics. It uses AI to recognize targets based on their radar signature using an air threat library. It can suggest to the pilot automatic engagement options based on available stores. Plus it can forward the radar picture to another Su-35 and request that aircraft to engage the target.

Well it's known however that it retains MiG-31's original Zaslon antenna.

I would say Su-35 can actually carry 6. This is from the old export brochure for Su-35

Notice the "Long range missile" on top This was originally for Hindu K-100 or R-172. it's a longer missile compared to R-37. Su-35 can carry 5 of those. I would say Russians just not using the Su-35 potential for this.

The Russian army has started using new ammunition for FPV drones in Ukraine. They can be called new conditionally, since they are homemade and created from sections of a hose with a powder charge used in the UR-77 "Meteorite" mine clearing units, also known as the "Snake Gorynych". Details in the video.

This appears to be the first recorded F-16 overflight in Ukraine. Rumors suggest that it was already involved in its first combat mission acting for the country's air defense.

Is it just me or is Russia pushing crazy fast these days? Town size of Bakhmut goes down in like a week.
Yup. There is currently no rational incentive for Russia to negotiate a peace. They are winning this and Western support has been exhausted. The only thing the West could offer to even secure a very temporary peace is to turn over the 300 billion USD worth of Russian foreign reserves back to Russia. Obviously they won't do this, since they'd rather steal it or sit on it forever. Plus there would be nothing to stop Russia from repatriating those funds and then starting the war again.

If Russia continue this pace they could hold the entire Donestk by end of the year, maybe more.

Previously they tend to get stuck at major urban regions, and had pull some form of encirclement to force enemy out. Nowadays it seems they just walk in and fight, and the town falls in a week or so.
