The War in the Ukraine

After I saw turks lose a bunch of Leopard 2 tanks in Syria to a bunch of ragtag rebels by leaving them exposed with no cover, I stopped taking "wunderwaffen" arguments seriously. Most of the difference in battle comes down to the discipline and skill levels of your manpower. Armaments are secondary.

The Romanian Ministry of Defense has prepared a report on the results of training Ukrainian pilots on F-16 fighters:
- out of 50 cadets, only 3 are ready for independent flights
- careless attitude towards studies and reluctance to learn English
- decline in athletic performance due to weight gain and alcohol consumption
- training was considered 'successful'

It doesn't matter as "former" NATO pilots will fill in the gaps.

Ouch. Russians took out a Ukrainian ammo depot and equipment hanger in the Konstantinovka village using an UMPK. The village is under heavy Russian assault in three directions.

Russians advanced to the center of Volchansk as this salient expands. I remember this salient was supposedly surrounded and cutoff by the Ukrainians a month ago.

It seems like Ukraine's battle lines are collapsing or pulling back across the board. And given Russia is in no mood to negotiate for peace, I wonder if they're going to push until they control everything east of the Dnieper.

The advance is steady but limited. For example, according to Ukrainian sources, in July the Russian army's advance was 181 km². And if all the advances were recognized, it would be more than 200 km².

Ukrainian ATCR-33S and ST-68U radars taken out by X-35U antiship missile. Plus a bridge crossing and a hanger but I think these were taken out by X-38ML, not X-35U if I am not mistaken. HARM missiles are proving to be a fail here, as improved antiship missiles are taking down air defense radars instead.

Russian flag raised on a part of the Konstantinovka Ugledar highway. At least Ugledar can no longer be resupplied from the road.

Ukrainian targets being hit over 25km by a new variant of the Upyr FPV drone. These targets are engineering equipment and trench diggers employed in the Kharkhiv front. Also hit are control antennas in the Bely Kolodez settlement. Note that the Kharkhiv front is being used as a testing ground for new weapons, such as the 2S43 Malva, the FAB-3000 and the M2018 Bulsae-4 all were spotted first in this front.

In the past those were open ground. These days the land grabs are town normally serve as bastions.

Once we are past current line of fort, expect open ground to be faster.

Also recall the anomoly of Kharkov offensive gains in last month. That was not something to happen consistently, so if the month follows is about the same, thats an improvement.
