We usually don't see Lancets hit Ukrainian held shelters but here we are. This is similar to the Krasnopol whose usage used to be vehicular use only but recently the tap is opened for direct human targets.

We ear a lot about Ukrainian SU-24 being the workhorse of their airforce. They had hundred (maybe up to 200) of them after the URSS fall but about a dozen flyable at the start of the war. Spare parts have been sorted out and gift from other countries to revive a lot of the left over airframes.

We don't see/ear a lot of their Russian counterparts. Some hint of them using FAB bombs but footage are sparse. For lobing FAB i would risk these old airframes way more than SU-34, don't know why we don't see them more. They have plenty of them. Maybe they rely on SU-34 ecm suites ?

Ukraine inherited 120 Su-24s, but that number likely includes some of the initial production version.

Don't really see where Ukraine would get spare parts for the Su-24 from. The type wasn't massively export, Soviet client states mostly received the Su-17. Those that did receive them aren't aligned with the west.

As for the Russian Su-24 fleet, they have begun making an appearance in the last couple of months lobbing UPMKs at Ukraine alongside the Su-34 force. The UPMK requires some work to be done in order to make the Su-34 able to use it, so it stands to reason that the Su-24 requires some work as well, which explains why they didn't all start doing it from day 1.

Engines parts could be sorted out of Su-17 users, but you are right about the type not available from NATO countries. Pretty sure that nothing could be salvaged from Iraq. But they still make them fly somewhat.

Some say they received more than 250 from USSR.

Footage of the destruction of two Ukrainian Mi-17V-5 helicopters; previously the US planned to transfer helicopters to Afghanistan. The helicopters were destroyed in the Novopavlovka area in the Dnepropetrovsk region at a temporary site. First, the helicopters were hit, presumably from a 300-mm MLRS, with 3B30 cluster munitions and 9M55K5 missiles. After the helicopters were immobilized, the attack was carried out by two missiles from a Su-34 aircraft, this was reported later. As a result of the attack, 2 Mi-17 helicopters were destroyed, the third flew away. 2 pilots were killed, according to Ukrainian media.

Recent Russian Contingency episode with Kofman and Rob Lee.

I don't really have the energy to go into a full breakdown or summary of the episode, I just wanted to highlight the really, really wild thing I heard on here. Ukrainian brigade commanders apparently told them that Russians are using execution as a threat to force Russian troops to undertake assault operations.

I'm gonna be frank, but that sound wild. I'm aware that Wagner did actually use executions, but we actually heard about those on Telegram pretty widely, and we also saw video evidence of an actual execution of a traitor or deserter or something. I have heard literally nothing on Telegram regarding this particular allegation.

Thoughts?

Well they’re likely scraping the bottom of the barrel at this point. With stories like that getting out, draft dodging will increase.

If we apply the Gulf War II Iraqi Information Minister rule, the more badly a side is loosing on the battlefield, the more unhinged and divorced from reality their propaganda gets.

This sounds very much like either totally made up nonsense to try to excuse their battlefield losses, and/or pure projection where the Ukrainians think if they as the champions of democracy need to use executions to keep their desperately unwilling press-ganged conscripts facing the enemy, of course the ‘barbaric orc Russians’ are doing the same and worse.

Sounds more like projection to me. Russian soldiers at the front line naturally get paid more. And we still get people volunteering to fight knowing they can end up at the front.

From my understanding this is some 40-50km from the front?
With recent strikes on equipment in the Ukrainian rear areas it seems like the HIMARS advantage is diminishing.
Should be very worrying, as this is perhaps the only major advantage Ukraine still has on the battlefield.
