This is basically retaliation for Ukraine's drone attack at Tuapse oil refinery in Krasnodar Krai.

Ukraine's SBU launched two attacks on oil refineries, and another two attacks on marine oil terminals in Russia. Also an attack on an LNG terminal at Ust-Luga.

I wouldn't be surprised if Russia started also attacking Ukraine's gas infrastructure eventually. After they hit the LNG terminal. Russia could strike Ukrainian natural gas storage facilities for example.

Refineries are huge chunks of metal. It is not that easy to completely destroy one. Unless you use a tactical nuke or a massive strategic bombardment with carpet bombing or something.

A single conventional strike might disable part of the refinery, but it can be fixed and put back into operation.

I wonder if the other refineries in Ukraine are still operational or not.

They are literally built to withstand explosions since they are working with all kinds of great things, gas, hydrogen, light hydrocarbons.
There was a refinery where I used to live and they had a huge hydrogen explosion that took out the production unit and blew out windows from nearby houses, but no one was hurt or died.
