ISW and the BROSINT community seem to be making a real big deal about the Kherson offensive. Russia has been changing the city over to Russia, has been giving out Russian passports and introduced the rouble. They wouldn't be doing that if they were planning on leaving.

Ukrainians have as much chance taking Kherson as they do Moscow.

Early in the war. Would it have been better if Ukraine retreated back West across the river and fortified that side? Make any Russian crossing very difficult after destroying every bridge.

I can’t imagine the Ukrainian grouping in Donbas being able to handle 30-45 more days of this. Things are starting to crack. Mentally it must be draining going through this. The French Army went through the same thing during Verdun. What saved them was the Somme Offensive by the British. I don’t see a similar Somme Offensive saving the UAF in Donbas. They are getting annihilated.

Whoever approved of this offensive should be fired. It didn’t make no sense to send these men into open terrain with with no air cover to get destroyed by Russian artillery and aerial assets. I’m pro Russian but it’s disgusting to see Kiev willing throw the lives of these men for likes and retweets on Twitter. As someone earlier pointed out Ukraine has numerical manpower superiority over the Russians in the Kherson/Nicolaev region. But Russia has the numerical superiority in armored vehicles and artillery. Air superiority is the cherry on top. So with that it was brainless to do an offensive. What Ukraine should do with their manpower advantage is turn Nicolaev into a fortress to slow down any future Russian offensive to Odessa. Instead they are falling for Russian bait to launch offensives to annihilate them. Ukraine’s military and political leadership is brainless like Austria Hungary in world war 1.
Ukraine probably undertook that offensive at Nikolayiv for political considerations. They want to show the public that they can undertake an offensive, regardless of the qualitative and the preparative aspects of the offensive.

One is hearing chatter about a renewed Russian offensive in the Sumy Oblast. I believe that Russia might undertake a limited offensive - much more limited than as compared to what it did early in the war - in that direction, to keep divert Kiev from undertaking offensives and reinforcing the Donbass Region and Kharkiv.

Karensky said not a long time ago that they will retake all of the lost territories... so they need to train a little bit, it's all in the plan. Even Nato are sure of it ! ;)
