The War in the Ukraine

Uncooled thermal sensor, plus its single use. On the javelin the cryocooler sucks up a lot of energy.

I get that but why do they bother keeping something that is unusable. There is probably quite a few NLAWs sitting in storage with a crappy battery that’s going out within 0-2 year. Not having a replaceable battery seems like a waste of money.

The Javelin has a gas cartridge to provide the cryocooling and it gets expended with time as you turn on the sensor.
So in the case of the Javelin it isn't just about batteries. And from what I understand replacing the gas is usually done at the factory.

The US has reportedly approved *thousands* of M31A1 HIMARS-launches MLRS to Ukraine. Combined with precision targeting capabilities, Ukraine is about to even up the score when it comes to artillery and potentially devastate rear Russian command, control, logistics and reserve positions.

HIMARS tho are wheeled. M-270 is the one that tracked.

the GMLRS is a valid concern i think as it is way more accurate than conventional rockets. Russians can shoot it down with Pantsyr or Tor's but they run the risk of being saturated. Gotta feeling that they would try shell snake island with those as starter.

Sure. But there aren't "thousands" of wheeled HIMARS systems. Anywhere. To produce "thousand" anything for delivery to Ukraine it would need to be the tracked M270. At most it might be "thousands" of missiles. Which would get expended quickly.
I would not say these systems would not be effective. But Russia has MLRS with similar range and accuracy like the wheeled Tornado-S with GLONASS guided rounds. And if they provided the ATACMS rounds, which it seems won't happen, then Russia has Iskander.

If I was Russia I would likely be putting a GPS jammer on Snake Island right about now.

LOL America is a joke, everything from the farts they emit from their mouths that they call "speech" to the garbage equipment they send and/or pretend to send. Russian advance unaffected; Ukrainians falling apart, abandoning posts, paying money to escape the country. There is no possible way to even up the score unless they actually take parts of Russia like Russia has done to Ukraine.

Any answer to this post?

They talked about this on Guancha. Basically people are keen to use ATGM's thermal imager for general purpose observing because their quality are really good compare to commercial ones. This then tend to run the batteries flat and make it unusable when you actually need to shoot the missile.

Chinese export ATGM run into the same issue, Norinco gets around this issue not by trying to educate the users into not turning it on before you're about to take a shot but instead just packaging two batteries with each weapon for your viewing pleasure.
There are two power systems on the Javelin: one for the CLU and the other for the launcher. The latter lasts 5 minutes, while the former up to 20 hours.
