feels like there has been a lot of dooming on the ukraine side on the twittersphere lately. between the failed counteroffensive, reduced western aid, NK ammo to russia and the dire situation in avdeevka, lots of bad news seem to be damping spirits.

There are reasons for this.

1) There is Arachamia interview that confirmed that during Istanbul peace talks main Russian demand was neutral status for Ukraine (not joining NATO, but Russia was ok with Ukraine joining EU). One of the main reason that deal had died was due to Boris Johnson visit to Kiev. The whole thing was received badly by Ukrainian public, because losses during this year were massive and situation are even worse than year ago.

2) Situation in Avdeevka are critical for Ukrainian forces. They had several significant and rapid territorial losses in area, and it looks like Bakhmut 2.0, but faster. There is also tensions between 53 and 110 brigades of AFU that are responsible for area, they blame each other for abandoning positions.

3) There is Head of defense committee of Ukrainian Rada of ruling party writing about Zaluzniy not presenting any plans for 2024 and just demanding 20k mobilization for losses replenishment each month. Basically that military leadership have no plans how to win war in 2024. She demanded resignation of Zaluzniy. Which itself confirm ongoing conflict between Zaluznie and Zelenskiy due to blame game about utter failure of counteroffensive and losses on battlefield.

4) Recent EU elections show increased support to parties and leaders that are either skeptical or even total against any military aid to Ukraine. Which raises a huge question about how long the EU would be able to sustain support.

5) USA are too busy with Israel, significant chunk of military aid are already diverted to it or to boost capabilities in region due to increase of tensions. The situation is especially critical in air defense and artillery.

6) Yeah, NK ammo are massive especially with current shortages by Ukrainian side.

Would be interesting to know how many NK can produce/year. Russia probably give a ton of energy and raw material to help their production, it's not the raw material or energy they lack, it's just more industrial output. It probably give NK a nice monetary input on top of it. Direct protected supplies line sweeten the deal even more.

20k mobilization for losses replenishment each month is brutal...

Yeah. And there is reason why they pass ASAP new laws and decrees that make mobilization even harsher than before.

A lot. NK have the insane number of artillery systems (10 000-20 000 by different estimations, which is a lot) and due to global pressure rely only on its own production of ammo for them. Rumors from different sides are that NK would provide 10kk of ammo for 122mm and 152mm as initial part of the deal. It is definitely enough to conduct war in current tempo for 1-2 years.

Russia has excess grain due to record harvests this and previous years (2nd highest and 1st highest in Russian history), plus new territories are significant grain production land. Russia had signed deal of grain supply to NK. So the deal itself is definitely win-win for both sides.
