It's not clear what they're trying to achieve (other than get blown to bits), maybe deliver infantry to the tree line where they turn around?
The most impressive thing is to see someone defend this type of operation.

You can clearly see that the Ukrainian reconnaissance and surveillance units in the sector are acting permissively, having all the time to coordinate the artillery fire, which means that there is no or almost didn't happen no Russian artillery barrage preparation to break through.

Do you know what I see in this war?

Two armies unable to coordinate and maneuver in combined arms warfare. I don't even know how to conclude anything about the defensive capacity of both, because both armies are terrible at offensive, I believe that any minimally prepared and coordinated army would be able to defend itself against both armies.

Ukraine replaces special forces commander, removed officer wonders why

Nov 3 (Reuters) - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy on Friday appointed a new commander of its special forces, a unit known for conducting military operations in Moscow-held territories, but the officer replaced in the shuffle said he had not been told why.

Zelenskiy said in his nightly video address that Colonel Serhiy Lupanchuk would now head the forces and described him as "an experienced officer, combat officer and the right man in command".

The president said Lupanchuk's predecessor, Maj-Gen. Viktor Horenko, who led the forces from July 2022, "will continue to perform special tasks" within the Defence Ministry's Intelligence Directorate.

Zelenskiy gave no further explanation for the change.

Horenko said in an interview he had been told nothing.

"I personally don't know the reasons. Let me just say that I learned of this from the media," Horenko told the Ukrainska Pravda news site.

"I spoke to the commander-in-chief (General Valery Zaluzhnyi), who was also unable to explain it. The commander-in chief was supposed to make the appropriate submission, but he told he that he didn't do it. I don't understand what happened."

The special forces are believed to be behind the most sophisticated operations Ukraine's military has conducted in areas under Russian control, in particular Crimea, annexed by Moscow in 2014, eight years before Moscow's full land invasion.

Recent examples are a strike in September on the headquarters of Russia's Black Sea Fleet command in Sevastopol, and attacks on a patrol ship and a submarine stationed in the peninsula.

The special forces are also responsible for military information and psychological operations, as well as the organization of resistance in occupied territories.

Zelenskiy this week praised Ukraine's military for diminishing Moscow's military strength in the Black Sea through increased air and sea drone attacks on Russian military targets.

The president dismisses Western criticism that Ukraine's counteroffensive launched in June is proceeding too slowly.

Commander-in-chief Zaluzhniy, in an essay published in The Economist magazine this week, said the war had entered a static, attritional phase, which was to Moscow's advantage.

The former commander learnt of his removal based on social media. Sounds like there is a bad relation since they never even told him about his removal. Could be related to the interview he gave on Oct 31st.

This is a ridiculous conclusion to make on the basis of this video.

Lol you can feel the anger (born out of impotence) of that guy all the way through his written words. Imagine taking 1 video of a tactical engagement and thinking it means anything.

At least most if not all pro Russian here have to remain objective when posting tactical clips. I wonder how long our dear mods would allow the posts to stay up if every single clip of defeated AFU was accompanied by gloating about how Ukrainians are simply trying to get blown up/sent to PoW camps...

But there is no need for that, because you don't need to be angry when your side is doing fine. Just describing what's happening objectively seem to trigger some people...

There is significant number of electronic warfare system being deployed by both sides that disrupt communication. SAMs concentration are probably highest in history, so air support are problematic for any side. And at the same time, UAV and satellites expose any maneuver and built up of forces.

I was much more shocked by the utter failure of Israel army vs barely armed militia.

Let’s not forget that both armies have downgraded capabilities. But such are attacks in this war. Casualties will happen. So far, Ukrainians seems to have had advantage in ISR/artillery and counter-battery. It will be hard for Russians to wrap it up there
