The War in the Ukraine

The Russian attack on Adivikka is proven costly. It was heavily fortified since 2014. The troops stationed are the finests of Ukraine, as opposed to the conscripts elsewhere. Attacking it at this point might be reckless.

Ukraine suffered much of its artillery, anti air in the region, along with recent destruction of supply trains. However I fear that is not enough. It is always hard to defeat enemies dugged in. Even Israel vs Hezbolah is not one sided. Therefore at current situation I don't think Adivika is falling soon without big casualty involved.

According to Russian sources Ukraime has artillery advantage is Avdiivka. Despite that Russians continue assaults.

Also whats noticable is that Russians are using BMP's and BTR's in place of tanks.

They are calling it Vuhledar 2.0.

This is what happens when two armies with no air force go on the offensive against fortified lines.

It's probably less to do with 'air force' (as the city has been bombed many times), more to do with infantry issues.

What is notable is there is no Wagner PMC with its ruthless methods to help out the Russian army in a concentrated way.

I don't think the Russian army is ready to readily absorb mass casualties like Wagner did by relying on light infantry to slowly push through block by block. However it's not like a armored assualt is doing much good either.

I think that's the issue too. They appear to be trying to take it without using a lot of infantry and with vehicles.

Vuledar and the environs were completely incinerated but they still haven't been able to take it.

Ultimately the only thing that can take the two cities are a serious effort with assault infantry & combat engineers.

They can encircle it and let them stay there for one year...until ammo and food are spent. If they are able to mass up enough troops to garrison it and destroy supply attemps, it will collapse by itself.

It's just that in these open mined fields, even encirclement is not that easy. Any vehicules out there in plain sight are juicy fruits ready to harvest.

Some additional stuff that came in.

Ukrainian truck or MRAP driving fast gets hit, probably by artillery. Ukrainian troops are tracked by drone, then suppressed by artillery. This likely to be in the Orekhiv sector.

Donetsk hit by HIMARS. However all the destroyed vehicles look non military.

This piece of HIMARS is intact. It's the nose cone with electronics perhaps the guidance system and the missile's brain. No doubt this will be examined, and a big boon to EW specialists.
