The War in the Ukraine

There won't be any rapid advances until the ground dries up. And given how the weather has been recently in Ukraine, with snow falling again, this might only happen in May.

Rapid advance is basically off the table unless and until Russia can unlock the skies to their tactical aviation both tactically and strategically.
With lots and lots of guided ammunition, not sure what's stopping them from making lots and lots of stand-off glide bombs, arent that hard technologically, I guess it's the kill chain or the accurate intel?

Blowing up stuff without taking ground is just waiting to need to blow it up another time... everything is pouring in replacing the loss when needed...

I actually think Russia is also having ammo supply issues such that they can't follow their manual scripts fully in regards to artillery support, the big winter offensives didn't really go all that far since they were bogged down in bitter city fighting in Bakhmut. We hear Wagner complain of ammo issues consistently throughout the winter.

They may also be saving some ammo in the case that they need it for the much hyped coming Ukranian counter offensive.

Article about the prospects of the UAF and the comments from an Ukranian pilot, namely, the guy who has lost two MiG-29's to Gerans.

The article also mentions that Russians have changed tactics and its taking its toll on the Ukranian Air Force; the Russians send a lone plane as bait and as soon the Ukranians launch planes to intercept the bait, they are pounced by multiple fighters

Major Voroshylov, who in a rare break from the front line met with The Telegraph, warned: “The Russians change tactics all the time, so the war isn’t stable. They make traps. They will send up a Russian jet alone, tricking the Ukrainian pilot into thinking there is only one jet. Then, two or three more will appear either side of it, effectively swarming the Ukrainian aircraft.”

These are the guys pushing the narrative that the Ukranians can learn to fly F-16's or Typhoons in just 6 months

“Less than six months are required to train on such a jet,” Col Lohachov said.

“As long as we continue to wait we will lose more pilots. We had a list of the most advanced pilots who could be trained on F-16s and unfortunately, some of them have already been killed in action.”

Progress in Bakhmut in the last 72 hours, including where Prigozhin planted the flag. I heard Russian regulars (DPR and VDV) have entirely taken over holding the flanks north and south so all of Wagner have been relocated to taking the town, hence faster progress.

Wagner's own map on progress, they're more forward than Suriyak's map.

The flag later on in daylight. Turns out the 5 story city administration building was entirely destroyed during the fighting. Prigozhin found a door on the building and decided this is the spot.

The F-16 is poorly suited to Ukraine. It has a weak undercarriage, and is poorly suited to the crappy airfields Ukraine has available. They would be better off with the Gripen or the Super Hornet.

The Russians now seem to have full control of the road west of the river which goes through the middle of the city. That should help with Russian troop movements substantially.

I don't see how new fighters can help if they continue falling for this trick, even if they can learn to operate them in six months.
