Impressive footage of real battles involving the BMPT "Terminator", filmed by a drone and 360-degree cameras. it strikes with all kinds of weapons, cutting down the Kremensky forest along with enemy fortifications. Reporting by Dmitry Kolko.
This actually seems like a useful vehicle, when it first came out i thought it was a goofy idea. That automatic grenade launcher by itself is an interesting touch to ring the door bell on trenches. Heavy armor, atgms, and copious amount of anti infantry firepower wrapped into one package. A single vehicle lays down a huge amount of suppressing fire. I like it

It seems to be used differently when assaulting built up area. I recall seeing one footage earlier on in the war and it basically stay well outside the town limit, took pot shots with its ATGMs then drove away to load more missiles once they were gone. It didn't use the autocannons much that time. It was different to how I imagined it where it will just drive down the road and open up with the autocannons and blast any windows where anti-tank teams are suspected to be hiding.

This fighting in wooded area is actually closer to how I imagined it was going to be used.

Wasn't BMPT designed with high cannon elevation in mind just for that exact urban combat scenario to hit hi-rises? It probably make sense that it would only be a option of last resort if no tanks are expected from the enemy, since atgms will have better effect on urban targets at a safer range.

If anything I would think forested combat is the most dangerous for this vehicle, since the enemy AT teams can always just sit in a trench and wait to ambush.

I expected to see this driving into towns as well, but I was expecting Russians to be using full blown Syria tactics in the back of my mind. I was under the impression the idea was to plug this vehicle into a typical tank squadron and it would be able to provide anti infantry support for the tanks to work a little more freely during armored advance, while combined with BMP2 and BMP3 carrying infantry, leaving the tanks to focus on liquidating fortified positions

Mind you that's alot of equipment to stuff down a road with hostile fortifications all along it, Chechen lessons and all.

They seem to roll up where needed like the police, unleash, then exfil to reload. As for popping up out of trenchs i wouldnt, if you are spotted your in big trouble.

I wonder how effective this sort of fire is because it doesnt look like they are targeting any particular individuals vut rather saturating the area. Maybe out of view infantry is preparing to storm the fortifications and this is an initial softening up, I dont know.

BTW regarding the BMP3 I've always liked the idea of its variety of weapons systems, but the aluminum armor is its downfall. It has so many tools in its tools box that I found it admirable. The BMPT seems to be an attempt to create a proper dedicated support weapon system that addresses the areas where BMP3 lacks trading the internal troops stowage for armor.

HE 30mm ammo and grenades exploding on branch and trunk is probably itching everyones around the area with small frags. I clearly would hide in a fox hole if in that area, quite a way to lose eyes and getting infecting wounds.

ATGMs and trees don’t mix well, Javelins even more so. As long as the operators are not close to the tree line, you basically don’t need to worry about Javelins coming out of the woods at you.

An interesting limitation that the Ukrainian defenders apparently were not aware of or neglected when choosing where to dig in that the Russians are exploiting ruthlessly.
