It seems to be used differently when assaulting built up area. I recall seeing one footage earlier on in the war and it basically stay well outside the town limit, took pot shots with its ATGMs then drove away to load more missiles once they were gone. It didn't use the autocannons much that time. It was different to how I imagined it where it will just drive down the road and open up with the autocannons and blast any windows where anti-tank teams are suspected to be hiding.
This fighting in wooded area is actually closer to how I imagined it was going to be used.
I expected to see this driving into towns as well, but I was expecting Russians to be using full blown Syria tactics in the back of my mind. I was under the impression the idea was to plug this vehicle into a typical tank squadron and it would be able to provide anti infantry support for the tanks to work a little more freely during armored advance, while combined with BMP2 and BMP3 carrying infantry, leaving the tanks to focus on liquidating fortified positions
Mind you that's alot of equipment to stuff down a road with hostile fortifications all along it, Chechen lessons and all.
They seem to roll up where needed like the police, unleash, then exfil to reload. As for popping up out of trenchs i wouldnt, if you are spotted your in big trouble.
I wonder how effective this sort of fire is because it doesnt look like they are targeting any particular individuals vut rather saturating the area. Maybe out of view infantry is preparing to storm the fortifications and this is an initial softening up, I dont know.
BTW regarding the BMP3 I've always liked the idea of its variety of weapons systems, but the aluminum armor is its downfall. It has so many tools in its tools box that I found it admirable. The BMPT seems to be an attempt to create a proper dedicated support weapon system that addresses the areas where BMP3 lacks trading the internal troops stowage for armor.
