The War in the Ukraine

Russia in the last 24 hours has been on the offensive across multiple fronts. Russian sources are saying offensive is in progress coming out of Klesheyevka and advancing on Ivanivske and Chasiv Yar to the south of Bakhmut. This is progress according to LivemapUA (pro-Ukraine source). If this progress is true that's a lot of ground gained in one day and now seriously endangering Bakhmut.

Russian offensive also in progress in Zaporizhzhia front with Russians claiming four settlements gained.

We don't have spares for the tanks, so the best that we can provide is sitting ducks for the Russian ATGMs to have fun to blow up the stationary tanks.

To avoid any embarasment we decided to not to provide any tank .

In 2022 dollars the cost of the M1A1 is 344 USD/miles.
Again, single abrams travel 80 km in three hours cost 15000 in spare ,repair without making a shoot.

Means the hourly rate is 5000 USD .

Of course the above data from 1991, at that time the tank was in main production phase.

I am very doubtlfull about any spare manufacutring capacity these days, most likelly if they send any tank to Ukraine then there won't be any operabale Abrams by the end of this year,.

Americans obviously don't want to see any M1s destroyed in Ukraine and would rather see the Leopard on fire instead. They do compete with each other on the export market afterall. Germany knows this...

Or Ockham's razor, and the reason why the USA doesn't give M1A1 tanks to Ukraine is because they haven't got anything to give.

For the manufacturer the transfer would be beneficial, regardless of outcome . They want money, a blown up tank replacement cost money.

Germany's foreign intelligence service is alarmed by losses the Ukrainian army is suffering in fighting against Russian forces in the eastern Ukrainian city of Bakhmut, news magazine Der Spiegel reported on Friday. The Ukrainian army is losing a three-digit number of soldiers every day, the BND intelligence service told a group of Bundestag lawmakers who focus on security at a secret meeting this week, Spiegel said, citing information it had received.

The BND warned that the capture of Bakhmut by Russian forces would have significant consequences, as it would allow Russia to make further advances. It also said the Russian army was using its own soldiers like cannon fodder in Bakhmut, Spiegel added. Russian proxy forces in eastern Ukraine said on Friday that Russian forces had taken control of Klishchiivka, a small settlement south of Bakhmut in eastern Ukraine.

Bah, cannon fodder talk again, like that ever worked since the invention of the machine gun.
But as we suspected AFU is taking big loses each day around Bakhmut, that big meat grinder is steadily wearing down their manpower. Around the time Soledar fell we saw a lot of blue ribboned troops as well, those should be professional army and not TD and loses of those experienced troops may be hard to replace.

i recall earlier this year there was a lot noise about who the winter benefits and who gets to go on the offensive. looks like this round goes to the russians, winter offensive in full swing now. ukraine needs to hold the line until spring thaw and start building up defense around sloviansk-kramatorsk, turn that into a meat grinder for the russians if you will.

That's a mobile weather station(pretty important thing in its own right).
That small cute trailer behind the truck is hydrogen, and operators know it very well.

No one sane will go there...
Hydrogen just burn like propane... you can even shot propane tanks with api bullet and they just go pffffffff. You clearly need to turn them red hot to make them go boom. It was not that big of a fire. If the tank was leaking I give them credit to get the hell out of there, it could do a nice flamer. The risk of getting a double tap could have triggered them to go away but not that fire.

The Abrams tanks would consume twice as much diesel as the equivalent Leopard 2s. That would pose a major logistical challenge to Ukraine.

Doesn't the US have thousands of M1s (of all variants)? Didn't they operate them in Iraq and Afghanistan continually for more than a decade? I just cannot see them lacking spares for a tank that has been in service for ages and has been continually updated and refreshed over its service life.

I also don't buy the "afraid of tank" getting destroyed argument when they are providing hundreds of APC and IFVs which will in-fact end up getting destroyed at some point.
