The War in the Ukraine

MANPADS is not a concern for NM. The NLOS lock on after launch missile has far more range than MANPADS. And the radar provides excellent situational awareness.

They still rely a lot on ballistic launch of rockets, though, which puts them really close to Ukranian lines despite the extended range of the parabolic throw.

Battle in the direction of Kherson from mid-autumn. Of the 16 soldiers killed, only two had Ukrainian documents. The other 14 were citizens of Poland.

Eh... Zelensky wouldn't be going around begging for weapons and calling for another round of mobilization (what 10th round now?) if there was just "minimal degration" to AFU.

Do you happen to have a link to the news of the most recent additional mobilization round for Ukraine? Trying to google it doesn't yield any recent results.

If you don't comply with recognizing the four oblasts as Russian territory and declare neutrality, then Russian army will impose their will upon Ukraine according to Sergey Lavrov.

"Our proposals for the demilitarization and denazification of the territories controlled by the regime, the elimination of threats to Russia's security emanating from there, including our new lands, are well known to the enemy," the state news agency quoted Lavrov as saying late on Monday.
"The point is simple: Fulfil them for your own good. Otherwise, the issue will be decided by the Russian army." - Sergey Lavrov

Unfortunately, Putin is still hoping out for a negotiated settlement. Little do they know Ukraine is in no mood to negotiate, so they should just impose their will upon Ukraine with raw force.

I think it has simpler reasons than that.

The Russian logic is :
1. we live and die by our laws, and the internationaly recognised norms.
2. We keep our world.
3. We use proportional and as human as possible ways to solve issues

This is the message, it is not for Ukraine, but for everyone else.

We live by rules, and if you live by them as well then there is no danger.

I'm considerably more cynical, they just think the current pace and type of conflict suits them so they don't rock the boat too much.

If you think Russia didn't take out Ukrainian power at the start was because they were nice then that is a very naive conclusion. They waited until winter because they know it has the most impact if the worst of the outages happen there and no one is prepared for it. If they did it when everyone was crying for infrastructure strikes at the start, Ukraine would be deenergized by summer and by winter, they may have adapted to the new operational requirements.
